James Hagan Wins TPC Omaha 8 Title; Denies Jean Laurent a Third Trophy

2022 Tampa Poker Classic

Event 9

$400 Limit Omaha 8 (Re-Entry)
Entries: 73
Prize Pool: $24,460
March 15, 2022

James Hagan

The $400 Limit Omaha 8 tournament had a great turnout for the non-Hold’em game and TPC Event 9 produced a very talented final table. After everything was done, James Hagan took home the trophy along with $7,390 after a three-way deal.

There were 73 entries in the split pot game and they combined to create a prize pool worth $24,460. The last eight players would make some money that would potentially leave someone at the nine-handed final table without a payday.

As it turns out, they lost two players on the final table bubble so the last eight in the game locked up their cash.

In addition to Hagan, the final table included Jean Laurent going for his third straight major Tampa Limit Omaha 8 title. He won this tournament during the 2021 Pinktober Poker Open and then again during the Winter Poker Open a few months later.

Jon Binns was also in the mix and he owns two trophies from Hollywood; he won the RRPO Limit Omaha 8 title in 2017 and added the RRPO Pot Limit Omaha 8 trophy this past November.

Greg Masterson made his second final table in as many days after taking ninth in Monday’s Seniors Event. Stephen Stoyko had back-to-back second and third-place finishes in our weekly Limit Omaha 8 games in February and Andy Laikin made the final table of this tournament during the Winter Poker Open.

For Hagan’s part, he has some results of his own. He finished eighth in the Omaha 8/Stud 8 tournament a few days ago, finished third in the Hollywood LHPO $600 H.O.R.S.E. in January, and won an O8 title in Jacksonville a decade ago.

There was plenty of skill on display and Hagan out chipped everyone to win the Event 9 trophy along with $7,390.

The Limit Omaha 8 tournament was set to form the final table when nine players remained but only eight were of them would get paid. They took care of two pieces of business at once when two players went out on separate tables to form the final table and put them in the money at the same time.

It is a tough lineup that includes Jean Laurent going for his third straight major Tampa O8 tournament win after picking up victories in this game during the 2021 Pinktober and Winter Poker Open series.

John Holley

The Limit Omaha 8 field is down to six tables on the other side of the room to leave them with 48 players but 40 of them will walk away empty-handed.

We found John Holley back in the room with us. The 2014 Tampa Winter Poker Open Championship runner-up picked up his seventh WSOP Circuit ring in January and he’s shooting for his second Tampa trophy after winning the $250 Turbo guitar trophy during the 2016 WPO series.
