Day 2 of the Spring Poker Open Complete

The second day of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Spring Poker Open saw the final flight of the first event wrap up and two players chop up the $210 Pot Limit Omaha event.

When the day began, 113 players came in at 11 am to play in the third and final flight of the opening event of the series, a $560 No Limit Hold’em event with a $100,000 guaranteed prizepool. The first two flights were played on Friday and 136 players showed up over the flights, making the total field size for the event 249 and generated a prizepool of $124,500.

Of the 113 players, only 18 players survived 14 hours of play, leaving 41 players who will come back on Sunday morning at 10 am to play down to a winner.

41 players will show up, but only 24 will earn a payday. A min-cash is worth $1,033, but everybody will have their eyes on the top prize of $34,911.

The second event of the series got cards in the air at 7 pm. 44 players showed up for the $210 Pot Limit Omaha event. After 16 levels of play, 44 players had been slimmed down to just two.

Pete Walsworth and Christy Pham chopped the tournament and each took home $2,502 when they got to heads-up play. They decided to go all in blind and flip for the Main Event tournament voucher that goes with winning the tournament. Walsworth won the flip and will have an entry into the $1,650 Main Event that takes place at the end of next week.

Here are a look at the results of the $210 Pot Limit Omaha:

1. Pete Walsworth – $2,502 and Main Event Seat
2. Christy Pham – $2,502
3. Jim Hagan – $1,232
4. Mike Tadlock – $847
5. Victor Pineiro – $616

Sunday will continue to have lots of action on the felts of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Poker Room. Along with Day 2 of the $560 No Limit Hold’em event, the $210 No Limit Hold’em Event with a $20,000 guaranteed prizepool gets under way at noon and there is a $210 deep stack turbo No Limit Hold’em event at 7 pm.

Pete Walsworth and Christy Pham Chop 1st and 2nd ($2,502 Each)

As soon as Jim Hagan was eliminated, Pete Walsworth and Christy Pham began discussing a chop. They decided to chop the remaining prize pool evenly giving both players $2,502 and go all in blind and flip for the $1,650 seat into the Main Event. Walsworth won the flip and will take the voucher.

The final two players took two completely different routes to their heads-up chop. Walsworth was one of the chip leaders throughout most of the tournament and used his chip stack to leverage his opponents.

Pham, on the other hand, was short most of the tournament and came to final table as one of the shortest stacks.

“This is the first time I’ve ever played PLO,” said Pham at the conclusion of the event with a smile. “I only usually play $2/$5 no limit and other tournaments.”

Pham was able to score two key double ups. One during the final two tables where she flopped two pair and got all in on the flop against the nut straight. Running diamonds came to give her the nut flush to double up. The second came when she flopped top set and got all in on the turn against the nut straight. She was able to pair the board on the river to stay alive.

While she hit two fortunate river cards to stay alive earlier in the tournament, Pham held pocket aces during their final all in flip for the Main Event voucher and had them cracked by Walsworth when he made three tens on the turn.

Walsworth and Pham topped a field of 44 players in this $210 Pot Limit Omaha tournament, which was full of local pros and tournament regulars. Even though this is the second event of the series, Walsworth and Pham are the first players to earn a Spring Poker Open title since the first event, a $560 No Limit Hold’em event, doesn’t finish until Sunday night.

Here are a look at the results:

1. Pete Walsworth – $2,502 and Main Event Seat
2. Christy Pham – $2,502
3. Jim Hagan – $1,232
4. Mike Tadlock – $847
5. Victor Pineiro – $616

Jim Hagan Eliminated in 3rd Place ($1,232)

On the first hand of three-handed action, Pete Walsworth bet 12,000 on a flop of Ts8s4h and Jim Hagan (pictured) raised to 56,000. After some thought, Walsworth re-potted and the rest of the chips got in the middle.

Hagan tabled TcTd5h2c, giving him top set and needed to fade a six or a jack against Walsworth’s Th9h7d4d. The turn is the Ks, keeping Hagan in the lead, but the river is the Jh, and Walsworth made his straight.

After counting down the stacks, the dealer confirmed that Walsworth had Hagan covered and Hagan would finish in third place. He takes home $1,232 for his third place finish.

Victor Pineiro Eliminated in 5th Place ($616)

Action checked to Pete W on a flop of 8s6h4c and he bet 5,000. Victor Pineiro (pictured), who had previously not wanted to tell us his name, check-called, as did Mike Tadlock.

All three players checked the 6d turn card and they saw the 9h fall on the river. Pineiro leads out for 9,000 and Tadlock folds. Pete W asks how much Pineiro has behind and then puts him all in for his remaining 16,700.

Pineiro calls and shows Ts7d7s2s, good for a straight, but is second best against Pete W’s 8h8d5c5s, good for a full house.

Pineiro will take home $612 for his 5th place finish.

Phil Wasserman Eliminated in 6th Place

Christy Pham limps under-the-gun and Phil Wasserman (pictured) limps behind her. Pete W completes the small blind and Jim Hagan checks the big blind.

The flop is Qd8h3s and Pham bets 9,600 after both blinds check. Wasserman calls and they are heads-up to the Jd turn card. Pham announces “pot,” Wasserman re-pots  and all the chips get in the middle.

Pham shows top set with QsQc8c2h and needs the board to pair against Wasserman’s JsTc9c5s.

The river is the 3h and Pham fills up to eliminate Wasserman on the bubble. Each player is now guaranteed $616. Pham basically doubles up to 123,000 in chips.

Greg C Eliminated in 7th Place

Greg C (pictured) bet 6,000 on a flop of Qs7d3s and was raised to 18,000 by Pete W. Greg C moves all in and is called by Pete W.

Greg C tables AsQhJhJs, good for top pair, and is up against Pete W’s KsJs9h7h, good for second pair and a flush draw.

The turn is the 8d and the river is the 7s, which fills Pete’s flush and knocks out Greg C in seventh place. Pete W is now up to 155,000 in chips. The remaining six players are now on the money bubble.
