Event 1: Cardin Busted On Last Hand

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 14: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

After Julio Novo limped from early position, Barbara Cardin shoved for 45k from the button.  After giving it a little thought, Julio called, showing QcTc.  Barbara was racing with pocket 8s.

The board was not good for the last woman remaining in this flight.  The community cards rolled out QhTs7c4sKc and sent the pot to Julio, while sending Barbara home without any chips to bag.

Thirteen players remain and are bagging their chips for the night.  Counts will be posted shortly.

Event 1: Trizis Takes a Bite Out of Novo

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 14: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

Julio Novo is the chip leader as they come down the home stretch in Flight D.

Steve Trizis is on his right and opened for 15k on the button, getting calls from Julio in the small blind and Dugg Hadden in middle position.

The flop fell KcJs4c and it was checked to Steve who tossed in a bet of 20k.  Julio called and Dugg folded.

Turn was the 3c and both players remaining in the pot checked to see the 3h hit the river.  Julio led out for 10k and Steve called, showing AdKd.  Julio mucked as Steve said “What did you think I was raising with?”

14 players remain with just half a level left to play.

Event 1: Gibbons Gone Again

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 13: Blinds 1,200/2,400/300 ante

The cards are just not falling Joe Gibbons’ way.  He tried again in this flight, making it all the way to the next-to-last level.

On a flop of KdTd9s Joe got all-in and called by the player in seat 8.  Joe’s KxJx was ahead of his opponent’s JhJd.

The turn brought the 5d and his opponent said “Diamond!”   Sure enough the river delivered the Qd filling out the flush.  Joe headed for the exit, but I expect we’ll see him again tomorrow.

With Joe’s departure in 17th place, only 16 remain in this flight with an average stack of 125k.

RECAP
In an event that was scheduled for two days, Josh Adkins (Tallahassee, FL) out-played and out-lasted the field to take it down in under 11 hours.  The victory earned him $4,040, the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open Trophy Guitar, and a $1,650 seat in the Championship event.  Local regular Mike Raimon took second place and $2,525.

The final table came together several hours earlier with nine players, but only the final five would get paid.  It took three hours (which included a half-hour dinner break) to play down to the money when Matt Thompson busted out on the bubble.

Local pro Natasha Barbour (and wife of second-place finisher Mike Raimon) was the last woman in this event and she was short-stacked for most of the final table.  She held on to finish 5th for $909, becoming the first player to cash in the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open.

This event drew a modest field of 47 entrants for a total prize pool of $10,100, which was paid to the final five players.

Josh Adkins is a self-taught professional poker player and he’s only been playing for a couple of years.  “This is the first poker room where I played live — this is where it all began,” he said.  “This room is awesome.  I can’t say enough about the staff.”

He was headed for collegiate football, but broke his back playing and turned to poker as an outlet for his competitive nature.  “I hate losing,” he said.  So he continues to play, just on green felt instead of green grass.

Adkins is planning to be in town for the entire series and is jumping into Event 1 tomorrow in Flight E.  He’s also happy to be “free-rolling the main” with the $1,650 seat he earned with his victory today.

FINAL RESULTS

1: Josh Adkins  $4,040
2: Mike Raimon  $2,525
3: Michael Aueron  $1,515
4: A. Nonymous  $1,111
5: Natasha Barbour  $909

The heads-up battle between Josh Adkins and Mike Raimon did not last long.  On the turn with the board reading Ac7s4c9d all the chips went in the pot.

Mike had 9432 for two pair and straight draw.  Josh held Qs9c7c7d for a set of 7s and flush draw.

The river was a brick and Josh took the pot and the tournament!  He earned $4,040, the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open Trophy Guitar, and a $1,650 seat in the Championship event.

Mike Raimon collected $2,525 for second place and also goes home with bragging rights for out-lasting his wife Natasha.

Event 1: Hadden In The Lead

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 1k/2k/300 ante

Dugg Hadden
Dugg Hadden

Even after losing a race with pocket 7s against AQ and shipping a double-up across the felt, Dugg Hadden (St. Petersburg, FL) is still the chip leader.  He’s sitting behind about 200k.

Only 27 players remain in Flight D making the average stack 74k.

They’ll take a break at the end of this level, then return to play two more before bagging up for the night.
