Event 10: Daniel Ramirez – 3rd Place ($680)

Level 17: 8,000/16,000/2,000 Ante

Seat 1: Stephan Bourges – 69,000 (4 bb)
Seat 2: Mike Sinicola – 460,000 (29 bb)
Seat 3: Daniel Ramirez – 362,000 (23 bb)

After Scott Anderson was sent out in 4th place, the three remaining players settled it for a long battle. Stephan Bourges and Daniel Ramirez took turns doubling off each other and Bourges went on break with only four big blinds.

Bourges caught a double shortly after the return before the two big stacks went to battle.

Ramirez opened to 42,000 and Mike Sinicola called in the big blind to see the QdJh8d flop. Sinicola followed that up with a check/raise shove after Ramirez bet out 60,000. It took a few moments to work out but Ramirez shrug/called with Jc9h for middle pair against Sinicola’s open-ended straight draw KcTc.

The Ts turn left Ramirez with seven outs to dodge for the big double up but the 9c river was one of the bad cards. A tough way to go from second position to out and Ramirez had to settle for third place money.

Dean Morris

Tampa, FL (December 14, 2015) — Dean Morris of London is the most-recent winner at the 2015 Winter Poker Open. Morris carded the top spot in Event 9, a $250 deep stack no limit hold’em tournament, following a three-way ICM chop that saw Anthony Solares take second and Event 1 winner Steven Bennett place third. Morris pocketed $4,599 as well as the $1,650 WPO Championship seat.

“I did come over for the poker,” Morris said of his travels to the States. “I was going to play some earlier events, but this is the first event I’ve played. I’m going to play the Main, obviously.”

Prior to Event 9, Morris, a 46-year-old managing director of an IT company, claimed 37 career cashes and 10 victories totaling just over $100,000. He boasted cashes in Europe, Tunica and Las Vegas, but never Florida — until now.

“[This][is][the] first time I’ve been to Tampa — or Florida — to play,” Morris said. “It’s been really good. I like the [Seminole] Hard Rock […] I enjoyed it. It was a good game today — nice and friendly.”

Event 9 boasted a $20,000 guarantee that was bested comfortably in Level 5. By the time all was said and done, the 120-entry field accumulated a $23,550 kiddie that paid the top 18 finishers. The in-the-money field was virtual who’s who of WPO standouts. Event 1 winner Bennett took part in the three-way chop while Event 4 winner Eric Wert finished 13th and Event 5 winner Anthony Pellegrini 14th. Others heading home with a payday include John Holley (17th) and Jeremy Costa (18th).

The 2015 WPO runs through December 20th when action concludes with the $1,650/$300,000 guaranteed Main Event. Additional events on the schedule include two, $150 deep stack turbos and the $250 Seniors Event.

Event 10: Philip Sheffield – 5th Place ($338)

Level 14: 4,000/8,000/1,000 Ante

It was a battle of the blinds that sent Philip Sheffield on his way. Mike Sinicola opened in the small blind for enough to put Sheffield all-in and he called with Ah2d.

He needed to catch to stay alive against 6d6s but found no love as it ran Kc4c3h9sTh to get Event 10 down to four-handed action.

Event 10: Agnes Barton – 6th Place ($257)

Level 13: 3,000/6,000/500 Ante

Agnes Barton was down to just 16,000 hitting the money and moved all-in shortly afterwards and picked up two callers in Daniel Ramirez and Stephan Bourges. They checked down the Kc8h3s7d6d board and Ramirez’ 4c3c was better than Bourges’ AhTd.

Barton finished her second table in as many days when her Jc9c was no good.

Event 10: Road to the Money

Level 13: 3,000/6,000/500 Ante

Since the final table wasn’t in the money, here’s how they got there:

Mike Sinocola and Forrest Jahn got it all-in with a race, Jahn at risk with AdKc against QsQh but he moved ahead on the As4h3h flop. His fate changed on the unfortunate Qd turn to send him out in 10th place.

Next up it was Agnes Barton moving all-in from UTG+1 and Jody Cvek moved in as well. Everyone else let their hand go and it was Cvek at risk with the smallest stack. His AcJh was good against Ah3s on the Kc6h5d flop but the 3c turn was unkind. Cvek couldn’t catch the 5s river and he was gone in 9th.

David Kolaskey’s exit happened when he ran into a monster. It was four-ways to the Qc4s4h flop and everyone checked. Kolaskey got all his chips in the middle with top pair Kd9h but was demolished by Stephan Bourges’ quad-friendly 4d4c to put Event 10 on the money bubble.

They hit the money after Mike Sinicola opened to 24,000 and Joe Squires moved all-in over the top. Sinicola called with 7d7s to put Squires at risk with AhJd. It was a dry Th8h2c6dQs board to send Squires out on the money bubble.

Event 9: David Pisciotta Eliminated 4th ($1,884)

David Pisciotto got all in for 163,000 and Event 1 winner Steven Bennett called. Pisciotto held Ac7s while Bennett needed to improve with the KcJd.

The flop smacked Bennett when it fell KhJh7c improving him to two pair. Pisciotto never caught up and busted 4th earning $1,884.

The remaining three players are now talking chop.

Event 9: Tyler Crane Eliminated 5th, J Mike Kennedy 6th

J Mike Kennedy eliminated in 6th place
J Mike Kennedy eliminated in 6th place

Tyler Crane limped from early position as did Anthony Solares from the cutoff. It folded to Dean Morris in the small blind and he made it 42,000 to go. J Mike Kennedy moved all in from the big blind. It was back on Crane and he moved all in for more. Solares folded. Morris called and had both players covered while Crane held the chip advantage over Kennedy.

Kennedy: QcQh
Crane: 6h6d
Morris: AsQd

The runout came with four spades — KsJs9d8s7s — improving Morris to an ace-high flush. He won the pot as well as busted Crane and Kennedy 5th and 6th respectively. They earned $1,413 and $1,178.
