It appears 30 players are in the midst of bagging with Ryan Gittings holding the chip lead of 262,800. The title of second in chips goes to Myong Han. He bagged 257,000. Ryan Gittings sits well over 200,000 after he hit a fortunate flop and Gil Levy hit a less fortunate river.

Gittings was in the big blind and Levy, who lead the tournament earlier in the day, was in the cutoff. There was a round of betting on a 6h3c2d flop. The turn was the 8s. Gittings checked and Levy bet 4,700. Gittings raised to 15,000 and Levy quickly called. The river was the 7h. Gittings started to lead for what looked like 30,000 and Levy reached into his stack prematurely. Gittings slowed down, betting just 5,000. Levy wasted no time splashing a raise of 15,000 in. Just as fast, Gittings shoved having Levy covered.

“How many more flights do we have?” Levy laughed while looking at his watch.

He called and saw the bad news. Gittings held 5d4d for a flopped straight that turned into an eight-high straight on the river. Levy held 8x7x for a rivered two pair and hit the rail.

Gittings now holds 217,000 and leads the way with just about 45 minutes left in the day.

Event 4 Day 1C: Money Man Eliminates Mary Donahoe

Level 8: 400/800/100 Ante

Griffin Arnold
Griffin Arnold

Griffin Arnold is the Flight C chip leader after eliminating Ladies Event runner up Mary Donahoe. As recapped by the table, Arnold held 9x8x on a TxTx7x flop. Donahoe shoved all in and Arnold called. He spiked a straight on the river and ended Donahoe’s run at a second final table appearance. After snatching the last of Donahoe’s stack, Arnold claims 102,500 chips and leads the way.

When recalling the hand for media staff, one tablemate jokingly referred to Arnold as “Money Man”. Turns out, the nickname may be fitting. Two years ago Arnold finished 9th in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship for nearly $175,000.

Level 6: 200/400/50 Ante

The clock shows 125 entries meaning Flight C has surpassed last night’s Flight B and is officially the largest of the starting days to this point. Registration remains open until 3:30 p.m. ET and that number is assured to grow even more as players turn out to jockey for their share of a healthy prize pool.

Cards are back in the air following the first break with the clock reading 113 players entered to this point. Play has started slow this flight compared to others as it proved difficult to find big stacks. A stroll past Table 31, though, revealed the chips of Gil Levy from San Diego. He holds over 60,000 — more than four times starting stack — and sits comfortably in front of his adversaries.

Terry Watson, meanwhile, is one of the tournament’s other leaders. His stack totals about 40,000.

With just over 20 minutes remaining in Level 4 the field has officially hit 100 entries. Late registration/re-entry is available for about three more hours and, in that time, the field is expected is to grow even more and surpass yesterday’s Flight B as the largest flight of the event thus far.

Players will take their first break of the day shortly and we’ll provide a look at some of the stacks at that time.
