Kevin’s Opponent Blewitt with JJ

The first big pot of the tournament comes on a board of J-5-5-3-3.

Kevin Blewitt (Tampa, FL) leads for 2k, O. Song makes it 6k, Blewitt moves all in for slightly more than the 30k starting stack and Song calls.

Blewitt shows pocket 5s for winning quads against Song’s flopped full house with JJ.

The hand gives Blewitt a double stack and is up over 60k, while Song hits the rail.

On a side note, props to Joe Parrish (Riverview, FL) who’s keeping us posted via Twitter. We’re using #SummerPokerOpen for chip counts and big hands.

RECAP
After a five and a half hour marathon final table, 23-year-old Nick Nardello held all the chips and claimed the top prize of $8,547, the $3,500 seat in the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open Championship, and the signature Hard Rock guitar.

Nardello (Tampa, FL) is a semi-professional poker player who has been living here for 2-3 years since relocating from New York.  He’s usually playing in private games or the $2/$5 or $5/10 PLO cash games, but decided to check out the new venue for the Summer Poker Open.  “It’s great.  I’m really happy with the changes that were made.  This is how poker should be played — you have some light coming through the windows, I mean come on.  It’s much nicer and it’s run a lot more smoothly.”

Nardello held about a 1.5:1 chip lead when he got heads-up with eye surgeon Brian Haas.  Their match lasted only about 20 minutes, but that’s after a grueling 15+ hours of tournament play.  Haas finished 8th in Event 9,  the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em event, and proved himself a worthy adversary in Pot Limit Omaha — in his first-ever PLO tournament.   Haas collected $4,703 for second place.

This one-day Pot Limit Omaha event drew 114 entrants for total buy-ins of $28,500.  That was distributed among the final 18 players.

“It feels amazing,” said Nardello.  “I don’t have any tournament wins on record so to finally get one is awesome.  I wasn’t going to play the main, but now I’ll be able to.”  He’s taking the rest of Thursday off to rest up, then will be back on the felt Friday in Championship Flight B.

$300 Pot Limit Omaha (High) Re-Entry

Level 27: Blinds 25k/50k

Nick Nardello - 1st Place
Nick Nardello – 1st Place

They got all the chips in pre-flop.

Brian Haas: KcQc7c7s
Nick Nardello: AcJc9d2d

Board: Tc8d2c4dJh

Nick flopped a flush draw, but by the river, all he had was a pair of Jacks.  That was enough to beat Brian’s pair of 7s, though, so it was finally over.

Nick Nardello wins the Pot Limit Omaha event and $8,547.  Brian Haas settles for second place and $4,703.

Event 14: 3rd Place – Jameel Harris

$300 Pot Limit Omaha (High) Re-Entry

Level 26: Blinds 20k/40k

Jameel Harris got all-in pre-flop for 191k against Nick Nardello.  Jameel’s Q773 morphed into a boat on the board of 3 2 2 7 9 to beat Nick’s AK86.  Jameel doubled up to ~402k.

Then Brian Haas got all-in for 316k against Jameel. Brian’s AA63 held against Jameel’s QQ75 on a board of 4 4 2 8 T.  Brian doubled up to 652k.

Then Jameel was all-in against Nick.  Jameel’s 9432 didn’t improve enough on the board of K Q 3 6 8 and Nick took the pot with KJT4 (pair of Kings).

Jameel Harris busted out in 3rd place, earning $2,708.

Heads-up play began with Nick Nardello holding almost 1.1 million to Brian Haas’ just under 700k.
