There was three-way action . The first player checked and Tony March bet 11,000. Billy Sanford, who was on March’s direct left, slid forward a raise to 70,000. The first player in the hand folded sending it to March. He took some time to think.

“Go big or go home,” he said calling off the remainder of his stack.

There was three way action on a board. Daniel Ramirez checked from the big blind and so did a player in early position. It was on the button and that player bet 13,000. Ramierz had the dealer verify the bet, then raised to 26,000. The early-position player folded and the button promptly moved all-in.

Ramirez had the dealer break down to the bet and it was revealed to be 62,900 — 36,900 more to Ramirez. He studied his opponent and found a fold. Despite taking the hit, Ramirez sits on a stack of 159,000.

Not everybody likes Mondays but it’s a good night for poker and watching some football action on one of the many TVs around the poker room. Tonight’s tournament is the second flight of the $150 buy-in/$50,000 Guarantee Event 4 at 6pm.

The first flight drew 96 entries to put us on a nice pace to reach the guarantee and we expect more this evening.

Every entrant will receive a 15,000 starting stack and play 30-minute levels throughout the day. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30pm and unlimited re-entries are available during that time. Play will conclude at the end of Level 14 and survivors will move on to Day 2 on Wednesday.

There was four-way limped action on board. The big blind lead for 2,200 and a player in early position called. Marie Harrell came along from middle position while a player in late position folded.

The turn was the . The big blind switched gears, checking it to the early-position player who bet 3,000. Harrell called as did the big blind.

The river fell the and the big blind checked. The player in early position bet 3,000 and Harrell got out of the way leaving herself a stack of 22,000 behind. The big blind called and the early-position player flipped over for kings up. He raked the pot.

The very next hand, Harrell shoved 22,000 and got a lone caller.

Her opponent rivered a pair and Harrell was left with 2,000 chips. She busted the very next hand.

Harrell is a resident of Tampa who’s accustomed to cash play but is starting to try her luck in tournaments more. She’s had a few deep runs as of late, but her chance at a score in her hometown will have to wait.

Billy Sanford is making his way up the counts slowly but surely. He recently picked up ace-king in the big blind and check-called a couple streets of action from an early position player who held ace-jack. The 4,000-chip river bet on a king-high board got another call from Sanford who took the pot with his pair.

He now sits at 100,000 chips toward the end of Level 9.

Registration is closed in Flight A of the Winter Poker Open $150 and the final numbers are in. The first of four start days drew 96 entries basically level with last year’s opener. They’ll join the field in tonight’s Flight B and tomorrow’s Flight C and D to complete the player pool.

Level 9 is freshly underway and just five tables remain in action putting the field at 50 or less. Action is schedule to conclude following Level 14 and the complete chip counts will be posted shortly thereafter.

Daniel Ramirez kicked off last year’s Winter Poker Open in a big way chopping the opener six ways and going down as the runner up for $24,528. He made no such run in this year’s event, but is in good shape for a carbon copy in today’s Flight A of the $150. With the first break just a few minutes away, Ramirez claims a stack of over 100,000 and leads all players.
