Jason Kushniruk (Detroit, MI) is the Flight E chip leader with 163k (82 bb). He got a huge double-up on the third to last hand of the night when he flopped a set of Tens against the AJ of Andy Orso (Plant City, FL).

After a flop of J-T-3,  Orso with top pair-top kicker, all the chips were in the middle and Kushniruk doubles 74k to take the lead.

“My world was ruined,” joked Orso, who was cut down to 122k after he peaked earlier in the level at 220k.

“It’s nice,” said Kushniruk, “but there’s still a lot of poker to be played. I’m not counting the money yet, but you can write I have to find a hotel room because I wasn’t sure I’d still be here.”

Here’s a look at the Flight E big stacks. A full list of chip counts will be posted later tonight.

EVENT 5: Flight E Last Level

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 800/1,600/200 ante
52 players remaining, 59k avg (37 bb)

The fast and furious pace we saw the first four flights has slowed considerably in today’s 10 am flight.

Even though there are a lot more chips on the tables, players are being more cautious as tonight’s 6 pm flight is the last one for this event. With a lot of players still in the field, the average stack is considerably lower than what has already bagged for Day 2.

The Day 2 average is currently 105k (53 bb), and if a lot of players survive this flight it will knock down the average quite a bit.

EVENT 5: Motown Freddie Mowing ‘Em Down

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: Blinds 500/1k/100 ante
67 players remaining, 46k avg (46 bb)

Freddie Kirkland
Freddie Kirkland

A sheepish Freddie Kirkland (Tampa, FL) isn’t proud of how he got the chip lead, but isn’t afraid to talk about.

Kirkland is up to 135k and says his recently added 18k after taking out pocket Tens with Jh7h.

“The flop was 8-6-3 with two hearts,” says Kirkland, “Kh on the turn,” as he hit the winning flush.

“We won’t tell you about the other ones,” he laughs and the table agrees.

Kirkland is originally from Lansing, MI and has strong Detroit area roots.  He says he came to Tampa “for the weather,” pauses and adds, “and a girl.”

While the relationship didn’t work out, living in Tampa has.

“Michigan is really sad right now,” Kirkland says, “it’s a tough place.”

Kirkland is sporting the Old English D, Detroit Tigers logo and is happy to talk about his alma mater Michigan State, especially men’s basketball and head coach Tom Izzo.  “I hope he never leaves. He’s not just a good coach, he’s a good man.”

EVENT 5: Flight E Closed, Total Field at 399

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 9: Blinds 400/800/75 ante
122 Entries

Registration closes with an unofficial total of 122 entries, which sets the five flight total at 399.

That’s one shy of what’s needed to reach the $200,000 Guaranteed prize pool.

The last chance to play this event begins 6 pm tonight, with registration and re-entry open until ~10:30 pm.

Mike Beattie (Tampa, FL) & Leif Oskarsson (Sarasota, FL) are off to good starts in today’s early flight as levels are now 40 minutes long.

EVENT 5: DD Tries to Double Down

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 7: Blinds 250/500/50 ante
114 Entries (Reg/RE Until ~2:30 pm)

Debra Dorcy
Debra Dorcy

Debra Dorcy (Oakhill, FL ) is taking advantage of the “best stack forward” option after bagging 44k in Friday’s Flight.  She’s one of two players we see with chips in the bank who is hoping to run-up a bigger stack for Sunday’s Day.

Dorcy is trying to improve on her 22 big blind stack which is the rationale behind the rule.  The other returning player is Rick Clayton (St. Louis, MO) who bagged 39k yesterday after a brutal beat.

Clayton lost set over set in a hand that featured Shawn Cunix (Columbus, OH) who was gambling.  Cunix finished with a top ten stack Thursday but failed to bag a monster stack after the three-way all in.

There’s no sign of Cunix who is going to settle for his 159k Flight A chip count (80 bb), while Dorcy and Clayton try and improve on their bagged short stacks.
