RECAP
Claudemir Osorio finally has a Seminole Hard Rock Tampa signature trophy guitar after a near-miss just a couple of days ago in Event 4. In back-to-back events, he held the chip lead at the end when a deal was made. In Event 4, he agreed to an even-money heads-up chop and let the cards decide who got the guitar. This time, Osorio got a larger share of the prize pool and the guitar to go along with it.
Norbert Kara, who took 1st place and the guitar in Event 4, also made the final table of this event, busting out in 7th place.
The largest buy-in event of the Spring Deep Stack Series boasted a $250,000 guarantee on the prize pool. Over six starting flights, the event drew 565 entries, pushing the prize pool up to $282,500. The final 54 players earned a payday.
Jonathan Marlow was the chip leader at the end of starting flight A and the overall chip leader coming into Day 2. He rode that big stack all the way to the final table with his father, John, watching from the rail. Marlow took 3rd place in the deal.
Thuy ‘Cindy’ Beltran was the last woman in this event. She started Day 2 in the middle of the field and was short-stacked most of the day. She held on to make it to a 5th place finish.
Originally from Brazil, Osorio now lives in Orlando and is playing poker professionally. He’s got two previous final tables and several cashes here in Tampa over the last year. He and some friends are all headed for Las Vegas for the WSOP, which starts in about ten days.
This event and the entire Spring Deep Stack Series brought out some big names looking for a warm-up before the WSOP. Seminole Hard Rock Tampa poker ambassador John Racener, who was the runner-up in the 2010 WSOP Main Event, played this event. He made it to Day 2, but was short-stacked and did not make the money.
Other big names turning out for this event were David Levi, Michael Laake, David Tuthill, and 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year, Angel Vu. Unfortunately they all failed to advance to Day 2.
