Shawn Platt

The first non-hold’em game on the Tampa Poker Classic produced a great turnout, as expected when Tampa sees an Omaha game. The $300 Omaha 8 game attracted a big 71-entry field and Shawn Pratt earned his first title after the dust settled.

The tournament produced a $17,750 prize pool and the last eight players would make some money. That meant the ten final table players still had some work to do. Michael Steckler and Greg Masterson tried their best with very short stacks, made the final table, but fell short in ninth and tenth places.

Pratt was second in chips to start the table behind only Michael Dreese. The chip leader could not turn his advantage into a title, dropping in fourth place.

Platt ended his Monday night with an Omaha 8 win for $5,643. This is Platt’s second-biggest score behind a third-place payout in the $150 event during the 2017 Summer Little Slick Series.

After a long slowdown 11-handed, the Omaha 8 tournament made the final table with ten remaining. Michael Dreese is the big stack starting the action with Shawn Platt his closest competitor. Greg Masterson and Michael Steckler are very short but found doubles to stick around.

They still have a little work to get done with only eight of the ten getting paid, that should not take too long from this point.

We will provide a final tournament recap complete with details and results on Tuesday morning.
