Players were heading off on a break when a big hand developed between John Pishos, Jay Giles, and Victor Hernandez. Giles and Hernandez were at risk with Pishos having them both covered.

Giles: Td9s
Pishos: QhJd
Hernandez: AhTs

Hernandez was looking at a big boost as the dealer put Kh8s3c4d on the board before the six out Qc hit the river to give Pishos the pot and send two players out.

Chris Kobil thought he might ladder up a spot after Jay Giles lost a hand to leave him with just 4,000. Giles managed a quadruple-up and Kobil took a shot soon after for his final 50,000.

He picked up four other callers and the five of them saw the AdJc5h flop before Griffin Arnold moved all-in. The three other players let it go and Arnold tabled Aces up As5c. Kobil needed a lot help with his middle pair KhJs and had four outs after the Ks turn. He couldn’t boat up on the 4s river and was gone in 9th place.

There were two straight all-in hands at the start of the final table. First up it was Nicholas K doubling through Chris Kobil, then Victor Hernandez moved all-in under the gun and Melody Murphy called in the big blind.

She was behind with 8h8c against JsJc and never caught up as the board ran Ac7h5d5s7d to put the final nine in the money.

2015 WPO Turbo

With our 84th entrant in the Turbo event, we have officially blown past yet another guarantee in the series. That makes the 2015 Winter Poker Open 11-for-11 hitting the guaranteed prize pool, the Ladies Event was the only without a guarantee and they ran up a field so big they’ll probably get one next year.

There’s a long way to go in a short amount of time but Herbert Woodberry is making the most of his time in the early going. There were a few decent stacks in the room at break but his was clearly tops.

Woodberry came back from break to a stack worth 130,000 to out pace the rest of the field.

Wally Maddah, Ambassador

The Turbo field is growing with new entrants and second chances. We have 40 players in the game less than 30 minutes into the game and more making their way to the poker room.

Ambassador Wally Maddah is back this evening after semi-intentionally dusting off his stack in the Seniors Event. We have it on good authority that a home-cooked meal was the reason. He’s back and ready for his third cash in two days.
