$180 Seniors Classic Rockers 50+ (Re-Entry)
End of Level 8: 300/600 with a 100 ante

With registration still open, but the blinds and antes climbing, there’s a delicate dance between the field growing and shrinking at the same time. Nearly half a row of tables have broken and the players are on their second 15-minute break of the day. When they return, registration will close and the prize pool will be finalized.

We’ll provide the complete payout information when available.

Wally Maddah

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah has had a tough go of it early. He kicked off the Seniors Classic Rockers event running his flopped set into the Royal Flush of Shari Amato.

Shari Amato

Maddah had a stack and was still fighting, but met some more misfortune a few hands later. Maddah was in the small blind eyeing a raise from the button. He three-bet, the button moved all-in and he called.

Maddah: ThTd
Button: 9h9d

Runout: AcJc2c9c5s

Maddah was feeling good after the flop, but the button spiked a set on the turn for a come-from-behind win. Maddah acknowledged her win with a, “Nice hand” and shipped the double her way.

Despite the cold streak, the ambassador is still alive in the event.

Classic Rockers: Brenda Worley Rocks Out Following First Break

Brenda Worley

With the first break wrapped, it appears to be Brenda Worley who sits atop the counts. Worley cruised through the first four levels of play and quadrupled up her starting stack. With holding of 81,000, she’s in great shape to make a run here in the Classic Rockers event.

The field is steadily growing since cards went in the air nearly two hours ago. There has been a constant uptick in the four levels since and the entry count crossed the triple-digit threshold a few minutes ago. It’s a ways off from last year’s final tally, but late registration and re-entry are available until 3:30pm.

In addition to their share of the $15,000 guaranteed prize pool, the winner of the Seniors Classic Rockers event goes home with Seminole Hard Rock Tampa’s token guitar trophy.

Marvin Karlins

The action was unclear, but there was an all-in and call on a board of 8d7c3c9c3s. Tampa regular Marvin Karlins was the one who did the calling, announcing, “Call. Flush.” flipping over Th8h. An obvious mis-read of his holdings, the table got a good chuckle out of the hand. Karlins’ actual hand, which was a pair of eights, was second best to the opponents’ pair of nines Jh9d. Thankfully for Karlins, he had the all-in bet well covered.

“It is the Seniors Event,” tablemate Tony March laughed.

Always a good sport, Karlins was a class act in defeat.

“I was over here thinking I had the nuts,” Karlins joked. “If you’re going to make a mistake, make a big mistake.”

While the table shared a quick laugh at Karlins’ expense, it would be remiss to not bring to light his long list of successes. Karlins owns nearly $220,000 in career earnings coming over the course of 33 cashes. His crowning poker achievement came in November of last year when he finished fourth in a $5,000 televised WPT event in northern Florida earning nearly $120,000.

Bo Bloom, Event 11 Champion

Tampa, FL (December 16, 2015) — The $180 Seniors Classic Rockers 50+ tournament began Tuesday morning at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa. The 11th of 14 primary events on the Winter Poker Open schedule, the tournament was fitted with a $20,000 guarantee that was all but obliterated. A total field of 210 entries marked a year-over-over attendance increase of more than 30 percent and generated a prize pool of $28,800. It was a long, 15-hour battle, and when all was settled it was Ohioan Robert “Bo” Bloom who claimed the tournament’s top prize of $8,066 and a $1,650 WPO Championship seat.

“It feels great — a great tournament,” Bloom said. “It was a good bunch of guys.”

Only the top 27 players finished in the money and it was Bloom who did the deed when 29 remained. The fateful hand saw Bloom holding AsKc against one opponent’s QsQh and another’s KcJh. With one player at risk, Bloom was competing for a side pot that saw both players’ money go in on an AhJsJd8d board. Bloom was behind the trip jacks of one opponent, but the Ac river improved him to a fullhouse, busting both players and sending the remaining 27 into the money in the process. Bloom wavered slightly in the hours following, but eventually closed the book on his first tournament victory.

Bloom outlasted a tough field late that included none other than Al Krux. Krux, a 72-year-old retiree from Wesley Chapel, NC, owns three $10,000 WSOP Main Event final table appearances, most notably a 6th-place finish in the 2004 finale won my Greg Raymer. Additionally, he claimed a gold bracelet during the 1996 WSOP in a $1,500 pot limit hold’em tournament. With more than $1.4 million in tournament earnings, Krux was by far the most accomplished player at the final table. Needless to say, his 4th-place elimination was music to Bloom’s ears.

In the end, the tournament belonged to Bloom. He defeated Tampa regular Forrest Jahn III following a brief heads up battle that saw Jahn bust second for $4,752.

Bloom is 54 years old and resides in Uhrichsville, OH. He says he spends a good amount of time in Tampa and comes here for the weather. The victory marks his third career tournament cash and first victory.

Bo Bloom and Forrest Jahn III got the last of Jahn’s chips in on a 9c5c3s flop. Bloom held QsQd for an overpair, but had to fade outs of the JcTc Jahn held.

The turn brought the 4s and the river completed the action with the 9d. Bloom’s overpair held and he busted Jahn second for $4,752. Bloom, meanwhile, took the tournament’s top spot, its $8,066 first prize and headed home with $1,650 Winter Poker Open Championship seat.

Stephen Fife

Stephen Fife got all in versus Bo Bloom. Fife was flipping for his tournament life with AhJh against Bloom’s TsTd.

The flop fell As8s2s improving Fife to aces, but giving Bloom a flush draw.

The turn was the Jd giving Fife two pair.

Bloom caught back up when the river fell the four spade — the 7s. He made his flush. After a countdown of the stacks, it was revealed Fife busted 3rd earning $2,736.

Fife resides in Orlando where he works in construction.
