Marvin Karlins

The action was unclear, but there was an all-in and call on a board of 8d7c3c9c3s. Tampa regular Marvin Karlins was the one who did the calling, announcing, “Call. Flush.” flipping over Th8h. An obvious mis-read of his holdings, the table got a good chuckle out of the hand. Karlins’ actual hand, which was a pair of eights, was second best to the opponents’ pair of nines Jh9d. Thankfully for Karlins, he had the all-in bet well covered.

“It is the Seniors Event,” tablemate Tony March laughed.

Always a good sport, Karlins was a class act in defeat.

“I was over here thinking I had the nuts,” Karlins joked. “If you’re going to make a mistake, make a big mistake.”

While the table shared a quick laugh at Karlins’ expense, it would be remiss to not bring to light his long list of successes. Karlins owns nearly $220,000 in career earnings coming over the course of 33 cashes. His crowning poker achievement came in November of last year when he finished fourth in a $5,000 televised WPT event in northern Florida earning nearly $120,000.
