RECAP
The “Classic Rockers” AKA the Seniors Event is one of the more popular tournaments at the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open. And when the music stopped, Ben Thompson (Lakeland, FL) was left holding the winner’s guitar and all the chips.

“I played real well today,” said Thompson who beat Bob O’Rourke (Philadelphia, PA) heads up to earn the title.
On the final hand Thompson was behind with Ad6d vs As9s, but six on the river gave him the victory.

“I like the Seniors (event) said O’Rourke,” who earned $4,470 for second place. “It’s more relaxed. It’s fun.”

The day began with 129 entries putting up a total buy-in of $32,250.

The final table featured several Seminole Hard Rock regulars including Thompson who said, “I practically live here.” He was joined by Wally Maddah who finished 7th an earned his third cash of the series.

There were fireworks among the final ten and it started with Bud Monday getting a double knockout. He sent Terry Shortland (8th) and Gene Gauthier (9th) home when his pocket 10s held against both players who held AK.

Monday worked his way to the final three, but was left short after he shipped a double-up to O’Rourke with both players hitting a full house.

Thompson eliminated Monday in third place and held a commanding 5 to 1 chip lead against O’Rourke.

“I was getting the cards,” said Thompson. “My Aces and Kings held every time. Anyone could have played my cards today.”

In addition to the trophy and the cash, Thompson earned a $3,500 seat in to the Summer Poker Open Championship Event (June 12-18).
