Seth Berger is among the familiar faces still in the field as Flight 1H plays down late into the night at the SPS series here at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa.

Berger holds more than $1.5 million in career earnings with many big cashes on the big tours around the country including the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, and Seminole Hard Rock stops across Florida. He also has three tournament victories to his credit.

We’ll keep an eye on Berger throughout the evening to see if he advances to Day 2 on Sunday from this last staring flight of Event 1.

Now that Flight 1G has ended, attention will turn to the last starting flight for Event 1 for the rest of the evening. Chip counts for 1G have been entered to the system, and will be released soon by the tournament staff.

With a little over a half hour left before registration closes there are 681 entries in the flight, and the total field size has easily surpassed the $1 million guarantee. Flight G blew right past the end of day bubble with not a single hand of hand-for-hand play needed for a quick end to the flight this evening.

The chip leader when the dust settled was Lu Yu with 1,218,000, which puts him among the chip leaders when play resumes at 1 pm on Sunday for Day 2.

With the remaining field about one table away from the end of day  bubble in Flight G, a pair of notables seated at the same table are Donny Maloney and Amie Martini.

Maloney made a deep run in Event 3 two nights ago at the Omaha 8OB tournament, finishing in fourth place. His career tournament earnings stand above $1.6 million. The World Poker Tour Champions Club member claimed his title at the WPT Borgata Poker Open back in 2019.

Martini was the runner-up in last night’s Big O tournament, which was good for $6,500 score. Martini is a cash-games mixed-games specialist, and her career tournament earnings stand above $143,000. Martini has one tournament win to her credit here at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa.

Michael Laake was all in with preflop from the button, and Danny Nocco had him covered holding UTG+1.

The final board read , and Laake was eliminated from the tournament. He still has a chance to re-enter over at Flight 1H as will most likely be the case. Nocco stacked up 300,000 after collecting the pot.

The last flight of Tampa Signature Poker Series Event 1 starts at 5 pm and they’ll be adding icing on top of a prize pool already over $1,000,000. The $400 Deep Stack surpassed its guarantee this afternoon and we expect another big crowd this evening.

The Flight G field is quickly shrinking down and now occupies only half of the Event Center with 288 players remaining at 32 tables. The other half will fill back up when Flight H gets underway at 5 pm.

Among those still in contention, we found Colby Covington, Karl Manouchakian, Black Whittington, Michael Laake, Michael Newman, and Carlos Loving.

Known primarily as an MMA champ, Covington also has some nice scores at the poker table. Last summer in Hollywood, he finished seventh out of 7,703 entries in their opening SHRPO event (the biggest field in state history) and followed that up with a win in the $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha 8 tournament.
