Alex Foxen

Alex Foxen added another trophy to the collection tonight as the champion of Event 17. He also picked up the top prize worth $53,920 and the WPT Trophy. Here is what the seasoned poker professional had to say after the win.

“This is my first time in Tampa, first tournament I’ve played here, so a pretty good start so far. I like the room, I like the area, I always like being in Florida. I’ve been playing in Florida forever for all the stops down there (in Hollywood), I never miss a stop, but I’ve just never made it up here because of the schedule. This is my first time up here, but so far so good,” said Foxen.

“I’ll be playing everything here, I’ll be playing the $2k tomorrow, and I’ll be playing the Main Event after that, and then the $10k after that,” said Foxen about his plans for the rest of the tournament series.

“I love live poker, and I love being able to travel and go to all of these spots, and it feels like we’re back in a place of normalcy a little bit,” said Foxen when he was asked about the regular schedule of poker tournaments coming back.

Paul Snead

As with most big buy-in tournaments (and we’ll see it again in the High Roller), players take their time getting in the game. This afternoon is the same but the 30 entries have the tournament more than halfway to the $75,000 guarantee with a lot of time to get there.

Some early entrants include Paul Snead, Mansoor Kader, Manny Minaya, Michael Laake, Bryce McVay, and Romeo Mendoza.

Snead is the last player to win a Tampa Championship; he conquerored a tough final table in the 2022 Tampa Poker Classic Championship that included McVay, Justin Zaki, and three-time WPT champ Brian Altman to earn nearly $200K.
