Quentin Jones

Event 3 was on the WPTDeepStacks schedule leading into the $300,000 Guarantee Main Event and the preliminary tournament was the perfect warm-up with a lot of money on the line. The $350 buy-in tournament had a great turnout and Atlanta transplant Quentin Jones outlasted every single player to hold all the chips at the end for a $31,987 payday.

There were 560 entries in the tournament combined across the four starting flights. The attendance topped all numbers from the same event last year and they pushed the $100,000 Guarantee into a prize pool worth nearly $170,000.

Day 2 saw 101 players return with a chance at the title and they hit the money early. Before the first break of the day, Tampa poker pro Michael Laake was knocked out 71st with 70 paying before they hand-for-hand process could kick in.

Only 12 players were still around at the dinner break six hours into the day including Herbert Woodbery, Wally Maddah, Hunter Cichy, and Daniel Ramirez. Woodbery was the overwhelming chip leader to begin the second day but two straight rough hands sent him out short of the final table.

Several players took turns in the lead among the final ten including Jones, Stephen Bristow, and Jeremiah Williams. After a long stretch of players feeling each other out with smaller pots, the final table action exploded and Jones captured the tournament by winning the last two hands to dispatch Bristow in third and Williams in second.

It was a shockingly quick ending to a final table that had deep stacks and talented players. But the cards landed perfectly for Jones and he walked away with the outright win to hold every chip in the tournament.

The real estate investor earned $31,987 for his victory along with the SHR Tampa Guitar Trophy and a seat in the $300,000 Guarantee WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event.

Congratulations to Quentin and all other who had a great run over the last three days.

Maddah: Ac6h
Williams: As4s

Maddah was ahead for the double and he had no sweat on the 7h7c5s flop. He paired the 6d turn but Williams added an open-ended straight draw. It got there on the 8d river and Maddah was sent out in fourth place.

Jeremiah Williams – 4,080,000
Wally Maddah – Eliminated in 4th place ($10,189)

The stalemate was broken when two players finally caught hands at the same time. Jeremiah Williams opened to 160,000 and Gary Cordeiro three-bet shoved for 1,200,000 from the button. The blinds released and Williams called.

Williams: AdTd
Cordeiro: 8h8s

Another final table race and Cordeiro faded the QsJh4h flop. The board paired on the Qh turn and Cordeiro was counterfeited on the Js river. Williams’ ace played and Cordeiro was eliminated in sixth place.
