Quentin Jones

Event 3 was on the WPTDeepStacks schedule leading into the $300,000 Guarantee Main Event and the preliminary tournament was the perfect warm-up with a lot of money on the line. The $350 buy-in tournament had a great turnout and Atlanta transplant Quentin Jones outlasted every single player to hold all the chips at the end for a $31,987 payday.

There were 560 entries in the tournament combined across the four starting flights. The attendance topped all numbers from the same event last year and they pushed the $100,000 Guarantee into a prize pool worth nearly $170,000.

Day 2 saw 101 players return with a chance at the title and they hit the money early. Before the first break of the day, Tampa poker pro Michael Laake was knocked out 71st with 70 paying before they hand-for-hand process could kick in.

Only 12 players were still around at the dinner break six hours into the day including Herbert Woodbery, Wally Maddah, Hunter Cichy, and Daniel Ramirez. Woodbery was the overwhelming chip leader to begin the second day but two straight rough hands sent him out short of the final table.

Several players took turns in the lead among the final ten including Jones, Stephen Bristow, and Jeremiah Williams. After a long stretch of players feeling each other out with smaller pots, the final table action exploded and Jones captured the tournament by winning the last two hands to dispatch Bristow in third and Williams in second.

It was a shockingly quick ending to a final table that had deep stacks and talented players. But the cards landed perfectly for Jones and he walked away with the outright win to hold every chip in the tournament.

The real estate investor earned $31,987 for his victory along with the SHR Tampa Guitar Trophy and a seat in the $300,000 Guarantee WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event.

Congratulations to Quentin and all other who had a great run over the last three days.

They didn’t wait long in the heads-up match to settle the matter. Quentin Jones had the chip lead and they both caught big cards on the first hand of heads-up. Jeremiah Williams was at risk and behind.

Williams: ahth
Quentin Jones: qdqh

“Hold!” Jones yelled.

Unlike previous huge pots, there was no sweat as the board ran 5c5d2dkc8h for a sudden end to the tournament.

Williams walked away with $22,425 for a great run at the final table while Jones earned $31,987 along with a $1,100 seat into the WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event.

A tournament recap will come later this evening.

Williams: ah8h
Bristow: kd3d

Williams was ahead and smashed the 9c8c8d flop. Bristow picked up a flush draw on the td turn but the qh river was not the card he needed to stay in the game. He played a tough final table but had to settle for third place money.

There wasn’t much going on for a while, all stacks were relatively equal and deep. Stephen Bristow was pulling ahead when they played a huge pot. Jeremiah Williams open-shoved his button, Quenton Jones folded his small blind, and Bristow called after getting a count of 2,345,000.

Bristow: kcjc
Williams: ah3s

Williams was ahead for the double but Bristow moved out front on the qsjs7s flop. Bristow improved to kings up on the kd turn but Williams’ baby flush filled on the 4s river to double.

Jeremiah Williams – 4,700,000
Stephen Bristow – 2,200,000

Event 3: Wally Maddah – 4th Place ($10,189)

Maddah: ac6h
Williams: as4s

Maddah was ahead for the double and he had no sweat on the 7h7c5s flop. He paired the 6d turn but Williams added an open-ended straight draw. It got there on the 8d river and Maddah was sent out in fourth place.

Jeremiah Williams – 4,080,000
Wally Maddah – Eliminated in 4th place ($10,189)

Action folded to Jeremy Williams in the small blind and he announced all in. Quentin Jones thought it out and called for his last 1,635,000.

Williams: kd4d
Jones: ah7h

Jones was ahead and stayed that way on the jd6d3c flop. Williams picked up a flush draw and added an open-ended straight draw on the 5s turn. All those outs and Jones faded them all on the ac river to double.

Jones – 3,310,000
Williams – 3,300,000

Harold “Uncle Rusty” Alexander open-shoved for 745,000 from under the gun and Stephen Bristow thought for a moment before calling to put him at risk.

Alexander: qctd
Bristow: ah9c

Bristow was ahead and nothing changed that on the js7c3h8s4c board to send him out in fifth place.

Stephen Bristow – 3,800,000
Harold Alexander – Eliminated in 5th place ($7,823)

Gary Cordeiro

The stalemate was broken when two players finally caught hands at the same time. Jeremiah Williams opened to 160,000 and Gary Cordeiro three-bet shoved for 1,200,000 from the button. The blinds released and Williams called.

Williams: adtd
Cordeiro: 8h8s

Another final table race and Cordeiro faded the qsjh4h flop. The board paired on the qh turn and Cordeiro was counterfeited on the js river. Williams’ ace played and Cordeiro was eliminated in sixth place.

Jeremiah Williams – 3,600,000
Gary Cordeiro – Eliminated in 6th place ($6,451)

Harold open-shoved from early position for 760,000 and it folded to Wally Maddah in the big blind. He did the slow peek at his cards, thought for a minute, and called all in for 555,000.

Maddah: adjh
Alexander: 7d7c

Maddah needed to catch to stay in the game but missed the tc9s2h flop. The 4c turn did nothing to change his fate but the jc river sent him the double.

Wally Maddah – 1,200,000
Harold Alexander – 210,000

Event 3: Wally Maddah and Harold Alexander Chop

Level 26: 30,000/60,000 with a 5,000 ante
Players Remaining: 7 of 560

Wally Maddah open-shoved from the hijack for 560,000 and Harold Alexander moved all in from the button for more. That move elicited folds from the blinds and a mild curse from Maddah.

Maddah: 8d8s
Alexander: ahac

Maddah laughed and stood up from his seat. Then sat back down after the flop came 8h7s5h. The 9c turn had Alexander asking for a six and he got his answer on the 6s river for the unlikely chop.

Wally Maddah – 615,000
Harold Alexander – 850,000

Event 3: Daniel Ramirez – 8th Place ($4,264)

$350 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 26: 30,000/60,000 with a 5,000 ante
Players Remaining: 7 of 560

Daniel Ramirez

Daniel Ramirez lost a large part of his stack sending a double to Quentin Jones and needed to make a move. Harold Alexander opened to 120,000 from under the gun and Ramirez moved all in for 140,000 from the button. Stephen Bristow called from the big blind and Alexander stuck around for the extra 20,000.

Both live players checked down the 7d5d5sts9d board and Bristow showed tc9d for tens up. That was good enough to be Ramirez’ ad7c and Alexander’s khqd to take the pot.

Stephen Bristow – 2,150,000
Daniel Ramirez – Eliminated in 8th place ($4,264)

Event 3: Hunter Cichy and Eric Morian Eliminated by Stephen Bristow

$350 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 25: 25,000/50,000 with a 5,000 ante
Players Remaining: 8 of 560

Hunter Cichy

There was a long period at the final table where things were cruising along with no big hands. Then things went sideways.

Eric Morian opened to 100,000 from the hijack and Jeremiah Williams moved all in for 825,000 from the small blind. Morian called to create the first big hand of the final table.

Morian: khth
Williams: adjc

Williams was ahead for the double but Morian hit the qhts9d flop. Williams had open-ended straight draw outs along with his overs and retook the lead on the ac turn. The river finished 5h to give Williams the double and put Morian down near the felt.

He found a small double up then saw Hunter Cichy move all in from the button for 755,000. Morian called all in for approximately 250,000 for the small blind and Stephen Bristow slow-peeled his big.

“(Expletive deleted),” Bristow said. “I need a count.”

After hearing the number, he called with a chance for the double knockout.

Cichy: ac8s
Morian: khtd
Bristow: adjs

“I’m live for the triple up!” Morian exclaimed.

Bristow was ahead for the double KO and the ah9d6s4d3d broke the logjam at the final table.

9th: Hunter Cichy – $3,199
10th: Eric Morian – $2,642

Herbert Woodbery

The final 12 players returned from dinner and wasted no time getting to the final table. Wayne Daley hit the rail on the first hand back and Herbert Woodbery was looking to send someone else. Gary Cordeiro moved all in for 580,000 and Woodbery called with a dominant hand.

Woodbery: adqd
Cordeiro: ac5c

Cordeiro was in trouble but crushed the qcjc7c flop to move way ahead. Woodbery picked up boat outs on the 7d turn but the ks river was a blank to send most of his chips across the table.

A few hands later he was all in with ah8s and racing against Harold Alexander’s 6h6d. That coin flip came to a quick end when Alexander caught a decent 9d6c6s flop to send Woodbery out after two rough hands.

Tournament staff paused the clock and they redrew seats for the final table.

Cichy: 2d2h
Rivera: 6s3h

“You never thought you’d have an over!” Wally Maddah laughed.

Rivera was very live with the two over cards but blanked the adqc7dkstc board to exit in 13th place.

Hunter Cichy and Stephen Bristow built a big pot and the complete adjs3dahac board was out. Cichy led out for 90,000 and Bristow raised to 310,000 after a few minutes. Cichy thought it through before putting in a call.
