Karl Manouchakian

Tournament Director Byron Rodriguez stopped the clock moments ago announcing players would log four more hands before Flight C concludes. The board reads 54 remaining and Karl Manouchakian appears to be in position to bag the lead with about 400,000. Others still in include:

  • Anthony Astarita
  • Rex Clinkscales
  • Kyle Kitagawa
  • Shawn Barnett
  • Nick Costarelis
  • Chris Hyden

The larger field and crowded Saturday night poker room are expected to cause a slight delay in posting the chip counts and table draws. Look for them by 2am local time.

Anthony Astarita

The board laid queen-high on the turn and defending champion Anthony Astarita was in position in a heads up pot. His opponent lead and Astarita called. The river fell a king. Astarita’s opponent lead again, this time for a bit more. Astarita went into the tank before he called. The opponent sheepishly turned over a pair of threes. Astarita tabled pocket sevens and took the pot.

“Reigning champ!” a tablemate said acknowledging the tough call.

That was the second pot in a row earned by Astarita and his stack now sits at 245,000.

Michael Cohen

Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Mike Laake was short and all-in from late position for his last 11,800. Michael Cohen called from the small blind as did a short stack from the big blind.

The flop fell Kd5d3s and Cohen and the big blind got the last of the big blind’s minimal holdings in.

Cohen: AsAd for an overpair
Big blind: 7s7d for a pair of sevens
Laake: Qs7d for queen high

Turn and river: 2hQd

Cohen’s overpair was best and he scooped the pot eliminating two players in the process. He grew his stack to about 172,000.

Kyle Kitagawa

It folded around to Kyle Kitagawa in the small blind and he raised. The big blind defended and they saw a flop.

Flop: Jh4c2d — Kitagawa C-bet 4,000. The big blind called.

Turn: Jh4c2d5c — Both players checked.

River Jh4c2d5cKs — Kitagawa bet 7,500. The big blind folded and Kitagawa took the pot.

The hand was ultimately inconsequential, but it helped Kitagawa grow his holdings to over 250,000.

In addition to Karl Manouchakian — who leads the way following the last break of the night — there are two more Seminole standouts still in the WPTDeepStacks Main Event.

Anthony Astarita

Defending champion Anthony Astarita is running it up after being unable to find any traction in the prelims or earlier Main Event flights.

Nathan Papp

Meanwhile, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year points leader Nathan Papp holds one of the top stacks in the event.

Karl Manouchakian

With only a min-cash in the $570 opener, the reigning WPTDeepStacks-Tampa Player of the Series Karl Manouchakian has had an uncharacteristically slow event. He’s in for at least two bullets here in the Main Event, but his most recent is reminiscent of his winning ways from last year.

Early in Level 12, Manouchakian sits on a stack of about 245,000 and is at or near the top of the counts.
