Event 1: Tom Nugyen Leads the Way

Tom Nguyen has benefited from the fast play in the money thus far. Nguyen, who began the day 10th in the counts, now sits on about 860,000 and is flirting with the 1,000,000 mark. The clock shows 49 players remaining and they’ve all secured at least $1,361.

One notable to have hit the rail thus far is start-of-day chip leader Charlie Miller. Miller began the day as the only player over 400,000 chips, but watched as the stacks at his table grew while his own shrank. He squeaked into the money before busting 60th for $1,187.

Event 1: Bahrami Busts Patton; Remain 63 Players in the Money

With 64 players remaining and on the third round of hand-for-hand play, Bradley Patton shoved for 79,000 from the button and ended up being at risk against Arian Bahrami in early position. Patton was ahead but needed to hold.

The flop fell safe — . The turn brought one of three outs for Bahrami when it came the improving him to a pair of aces. The river was a meaningless . With that, Patton, who won the $350 Deep Stack Spring Poker Series for more than $30,000 in 2015, busted 64th and went home the bubble boy.

All remaining players are now in the money and assured at least $1,187. The tournament’s winner, meanwhile, pockets $83,782.

Players are in the midst of their first 15-minute break of the day and tournament staff is coloring up the purple 500 chips. There’s a log jam toward the top of the counts as a handful of notable players are stuck right around the 400,000 mark.

Per usual for the Tampa room, players are getting it in and doubling up or hitting the rail at the a frenzied pace. The field has narrowed from 133 starting to just 86 following barely 90 minutes of play. Paying only the top 63 players, the bubble is right around the corner.

At the 2,000/4,000 level, Marvin Karlins splashed 35,000 in the pot to the open the action. It folded around to the small blind and he shoved for about 50,000. Karlins called and flipped over putting the small blind’s at risk.

In a classic race, Karlins’ queens held on the runout. The small blind busted while Karlins added to his castle of chips. Following, some deciphering of his mismatched stack, Karlins’ holdings were pegged at just over 400,000.

“Whatever it is it could go real fast,” Karlins said eying his own stack.

Day 2 of the opening event of the WPTDeepStacks-Tampa at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is underway! The $570 buy-in tournament saw a field 698 entries smash the $200,000 guarantee to the tune of a $349,000 prize pool. After three days and six starting flights, the tournament is down to 133 with Charlie Miller of Palmetto, Fla. topping the counts.

Miller claims a monster stack of 417,500 and is the only player above the 400,000 mark. The next closes player, Parm Mehmi, sits at 382,500 while the largest stack after hers belong to Carlos Evangelista who holds 255,000.

Others still around for Day 2 include Marvin Karlins (214,000), Cheri Beatty (87,500), Jeffrey Fullmer (72,000) and Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah (60,500).

With only the top 63 finishing in the money, the bubble is quite a ways away. A min-cash in the event earns $1,187 while the tournament’s champion pockets $83,782.
