Championship Day 1C: Who They’re Chasing

$1,650 Winter Poker Open Championship
Level 5: 150/300/50 Ante

Jonathan Lagace-Bastien (Laval, QC)
Chip leader Jonathan Lagace-Bastien (Laval, QC) bagged 357,500 in Flight B.

Canada’s Jonathan Lagace-Bastien reaped the rewards of sharing a table with chip leader Derek Bowers late during yesterday’s Flight B. He reaped them so hard, in fact, when the dust settled Lagace-Bastien no longer shared the table with the chip leader because he was the chip leader. He bagged an uncanny 357,500 chips — more than 11 times the 30,000-chip starting stack!

Lagace-Bastien’s pile of money represents a stack that’s 350% greater than average and sends him to tomorrow’s Day 2 with 119 big blinds. As is, the next closest stack from Flight A/B belongs to Flight A’s Sean Shah who holds a measly 197,000.

Historically, the Day 2 chip leader emerges from the largest of the starting flights, but Lagace-Bastien has made that hard on the rest of the field in Flight C.
