Ron Landy

When the final table began for Event 5, Ron Landy was one of the shortest stacks in the field, but he pulled off the comeback run while eliminations flew quickly during the final stages. He had recently moved down to Florida from New Jersey, and he has found a new poker tournament home here at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa. He took home the top prize worth $4,895, along with the SPS trophy after topping the field of 81 entries today.

We caught up with Landy shortly after the win when he was all smiles, and here is what he had to say about winning the tournament, “It feels great, just great. It’s the first trophy I’ve won. I’ve won some smaller tournaments, but this is the first one at the Hard Rock. It’s going right on the mantle.”

Landy continued, “I just moved down here from Jersey so I’m loving it. I like the structures, and I like the room upstairs here. It’s great, and it’s great to win.”

When he was asked about his comeback victory and fast action at the final table, this was Landy’s reply, “It did, it did, I kind of got lucky with one hand, and then the cards just started coming, and that’s the way it goes. I mean I was out, I had 7-4 of clubs. I was all in, there was a jack on the board, one guy had a jack, and the other guy had a flush draw. I had a flush draw and the four, so I called for the seven and it hit and held up. That was the hand that changed it, I would have been out if I didn’t get that seven.”

“It was good, it went pretty fast, and the structure was good and I’m definitely going to play more.  I don’t like the multi-days because I help my son out with his business. We’re in lightning TV advertising, we’re a marketing company based out of Florida and we’re doing pretty good with it. Me and my wife like to play on the side and she got knocked out on the money bubble. We’ll celebrate a little bit, but not too much, but it’s nice to win,” said Landy when asked about his plans for the rest of the SPS tournament series after his experience today.
