Main Event Day 1C: Back in Action

$1,700 WPO Main Event (Re-Entry)
$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 10:  500/1,500 with a 1,500 ante
Entries:  360 (Total: 779)

The dinner break is over and we have a big number. Registration was slow throughout the 90-minute break but really ramped up with time running out to join.

The unofficial count stands at 360 entries with the last few players now being seated. That number adds up to a huge field with some big money on the line.

We will publish the official numbers as soon as they are available.

Level 9:  500/1,000 with a 1,000 ante
Entries:  328 (Total: 747)

James Calderaro

The WPO Main Event got a little more talented and a little more fun. James Calderaro knows how to play and how to have a good time, his table is never boring.

The last time we saw “Caldo” in a major tournament, he was finishing fifth in the Tampa WSOP Circuit Main Event last February a few days after finishing fifth in the High Roller. He has $4.7 million earnings with a nice chunk of that from a WSOP bracelet win in the 2017 $25K Pot Limit Omaha High Roller.

Entries:  315 (Total: 734)

Josias Santos

“I’m going to win this one,” Josias Santos said.

“Mark that down,” he continued with a smile.

With $1.3 million in earnings, he has a better than average shot at winning the WPO Main Event. The last time we heard him utter those words, he won the $1,650 Purple Chip Bounty in Hollywood during the Poker Showdown.

Santos also has wins from Vegas to Pennsylvania to Atlantic City and right here during the 2016 Winter Poker Open.

Main Event Day 1C: New Leader Haitham Foty

Haitham Foty

The break is complete and Flight C is back underway with 297 entries putting the prize pool over $1,100,000. They’ll play three more levels, take a 90-minute dinner break, and registration will close when they return at 7pm.

We have a new leader in the room and he’s one of our new guests. Haitham Foty is enjoying his first time and the Texan is stacked up to 139,000. Brian Woops looks like the second spot with 120,200 with several other crowning the 100K mark.

Main Event Day 1C: Cruising to the Second Break

Level 6:  300/500 with a 500 ante
Entries:  274

Jennifer Haselton

After a few historic levels in the Main Event, players will soon be taking a break from the action once Level 6 comes to an end. There are still more than four hours to hop in the big tournament and we expect more to show up.

Jennifer Haselton and Lexy Gavin were two of the players here early and going since the start. Haselton is a favorite in the Poker Room and occasionally dips her toes in the tournament waters. She bagged a $20K Winter Poker Open score a few years ago and won the Thursday Double Stack in January before the schedules were put on hold.

Gavin is a visitor from afar and this is her first tournament in our room. The poker pro/trainer also has a lot of tournament success including a final table finish at this year’s Bay101 Shooting Star.

Main Event Day 1C: New Milestone

$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5:  200/400 with a 400 ante
Entries:  257

With such a big turnout, it seems that we will be making new marks at every turn. The latest came a few minutes ago when the combined total of entries hit 672 to become the biggest Winter Poker Open Main Event field.

The previous record was in 2017 when the tournament drew 671 entries and the only other $1,000,000 WPO Main Event prize pool.

Main Event Day 1C: Million Dollar Mark

$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 4:  200/300 with a 300 ante
Entries:  227

It only took 10 minutes after the break to get our 227th entry today. That put the combined total up to 646 for the Main Event and the prize pool is now officially over $1,000,000.

And it won’t stop there. With registration and re-entries available until 7pm, that number is going to get a lot bigger.

Main Event Day 1C: Rodney Turvin Leads

$1,700 WPO Main Event (Re-Entry)
$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 4:  200/300 with a 300 ante
Entries:  215

Rodney Turvin

Flight C is back underway and ready to hit the million-dollar mark in this level. With 13 satellite winners about to join, you can lock it up.

There were few huge stacks in the room after two hours and one of them belongs to Rodney Turvin. He’s up to 94,800 with Bill Myers the closest to him with 82,300.

Turvin had the biggest cash of his career for $65,489 back in 2019 when he finished second to eventual SHRP Player of the Year David Nathaniel in the Pinktober Main Event.
