Just about an hour since the bubble burst at the hands of Aaron Kerns, it’s Kerns that leads the way in the Winter Poker Open $350. With a stack of about 780,000 chips, he holds 65 big blinds and is tops to start Level 19.

Gary Elvis

Following nearly an hour of hand-for-hand play, the bubble burst in the $350 restart leaving 51 left and assuring them all at least $661.

On the fateful hand, Gary Elvis and Aaron Kerns saw a flop of Kd7s6c. Elvis got all-in and Kerns called putting the bubble at risk.

Kerns: Kh9s for top pair
Elvis: Ah9h for ace-high

Turn and river: KsAs

No help for Elvis on the turn or river and he was eliminated in 52nd place sending the remaining 51 into the money.

Fred Paradis (Seat 5) and Sam Harvey (Seat 6)

The start-of-day chip leader Fred Paradis took a massive hit to his stack leaving himself less than five big blinds.

According to the table, Paradis held 9d6d against Sam Harvey’s Ac8s. The flop was 8c6c5d and the duo got the last of Harvey’s roughly 180,000 chips in the middle. Harvey was at risk while Paradis wasn’t in much better shape with only 29,000 behind after the call.

Paradis held a pair of sixes, a gutshot straight draw and backdoor flush outs. Harvey, meanwhile, had top top.

Turn and river: 2dKc

Paradis never improved and was left stunned. Harvey stacked the pot and Paradis hit the rail a short time later — shy of the money after starting the day as the big stack.

Play moved hand-for-hand a short time later.

Fred Paradis – Eliminated

Tom Nguyen

As expected, it’s a quick go here early on Day 2 of the Winter Poker Open $350. Tom Nguyen, who started the day with a top 10 stack, already whittled himself down to 75,000. After an early-position open, Nguyen shoved them all in the middle. The opponent called and just like that, Nguyen was at risk.

Nguyen: Ad7d
Opponent: KcJc

Runout: Jd7h4d7cTc

The hand was far from over after the flop with both players catching a big piece of it. The turn 7c tripped up Nguyen, though.

“I win, right?” he laughed deciphering the board.

One player not enjoying the same comeback is Tampa’s Wally Maddah. He recently hit the rail when his AxQx was bested by an opponent’s AxKx.

Tom Nguyen – 163,000
Wally Maddah – Eliminated

Day 2 of the big, $350 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed Winter Poker Open re-entry event begins at 12pm. Just 74 players are still in the game from 502 starting and Fred Paradis tops the field.

Paradis slept two nights on the chip lead after bagging Monday’s Flight A with 441,000. He begins today’s restart at the top looking down and is one of only two players over the 400,000 mark. The other — Joe Godbolt — has 416,000.

Others notable stacks include Tom Nguyen, Anthony Astarita and Event 1 runner-up Tony Tran all in the top 10. Tampa regulars Karl Manouchakian, Cheri Beatty, Herbert Woodbery, Anthony Dianaty and Wally Maddah begin Day 2 outside the top 10.

Day 2 Chip Counts | Table Draws | Payouts

A payday is reserved for only the top 51 finishers and a min-cash is set to send them home with $661. The prizes escalate from there and top out in the form of a $30,602 score. In addition, the tournament champion earns a $1,650 Main Event seat and a guitar trophy.

Tournament updates will begin at 12pm and run all the way through to the crowning of a champion. Good luck, Day 2 players!
