Event 2: Stuck at Three

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Level 19:  Blinds 5k/10k

Total Entries:  59
Players Remaining: 3
Average Stack:  393,000 (39 big blinds)

The final three are having too much fun to wrap this up.  The chips have also flattened out a bit.

In a recent hand, Derek Bowers opened for 20k on the button and John Dobson called from the big blind.

The flop came Ad9h3s and John checked, Derek bet 23k, and John called.  The turn was the As and again John checked.  Derek bet the pot (189k) and John went deep into the tank.

Ravi Ande eventually called for the clock, but John folded before his time ran out.

After that pot, Derek had about 500k, John had about 440k, and Ravi had 226k.

Event 2: Dobson Doubles Up

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Level 18:  Blinds 4,000/8,000

Total Entries:  59
Players Remaining: 3
Average Stack:  393,000 (49 big blinds)

On a flop of Jd7s5c John Dobson (sb) checked, Derek Bowers (bb) bet 16k, John potted, (85k) Derek re-potted, and John committed the last of his chips.

John had 9h5s5h4s for trip 5s and although Derek did not expose his hand, he said “I’m drawing dead to running spades.”

The last two came running 9s, giving John a full house and full double.  He chipped up to ~420k while Derek’s stack dropped to ~660k.

Ravi Ande is watching the other two battle with his short stack of about 100k.

Event 2: 4th Place – Alex Ivan

Level 17:  Blinds 3,000/6,000

Alex Ivan - 4th Place
Alex Ivan – 4th Place

Three players saw a flop of 5s5h4c.  Derek Bowers (sb) checked, Ravi Ande (bb) checked, and Alex Ivan bet 24k.

Derek check-raised to 55k, Ravi folded, and Alex called to see the 2s land on the turn.  Derek checked, Alex thumped out a stack of black 5k chips that looked like about 80k and Derek announced he was all-in.

Alex called off the rest of his chips with AsQs7d3h for the wheel.  Derek had him drawing dead with 8c6s5d4h for the full boat.

River was the irrelevant 8d and Derek took the pot, chipping up to ~870k.

Alex took 4th place and $1,500.

Following a color-up break, the final four are back on the felt.

Average Stack:  295,000 (59 big blinds)

On the last hand of the level, Derek Bowers (cutoff) and Teddy Andrews (button) were looking at a flop of Ts4c3h.  Teddy got all-in and after some thought, Derek called.

Teddy had JdJc8s2h for an overpair to the board.  Derek was behind with QsTh9c7s for top pair (Tens).

The last two fell Ac7d and Derek made a second pair on the river to take the pot, sending Teddy to the rail.

Teddy (who requested no photos) earned $1,200 for his 5th place finish.

Event 2: 6th Place – Donna Blevins

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Average Stack:  236,000 (47 big blinds)

Donna Blevins
Donna Blevins – 6th Place

Donna Blevins was quite patient, waiting for a good hand before getting the last of her chips in the pot.  She had KKxx, but it was not enough and she was felted in 6th place ($900.)

She was quite proud of the fact that at 66 years young, she held her own with the young guys at the table in a game that is known for aggression.  Probably helps that she’s a Poker Mindset Coach!

Event 2: Derek Whorley Bubbles

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Level 16:  Blinds 2,500/5,000

Total Entries:  59
Players Remaining: 6
Average Stack:  197,000 (39 big blinds)

Derek Whorley - Bubble Boy
Derek Whorley – Bubble Boy

Derek Whorley had watched his stack dwindle until he had 5,000 of his remaining 10,300 in for the big blind.  He got all-in against two players, who checked down the board of Tc6s2h2d9d.

Derek showed 88xx for two pair, but Alex Ivan had 9s9c8s5s for nines-full to take the pot.

Derek Whorley, who is only 19 years old and the youngest player at this table and probably in this entire event, busted out in 7th place on the bubble.

Event 2: PLO Still Bubbling

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Level 15:  Blinds 2,000/4,000

Total Entries:  59
Players Remaining: 7
Average Stack:  168,500 (42 big blinds)

Derek Bowers went on a rush, taking the chip lead.  On the river with a board of Q 3 2 8 3, Derek check-raised Honest John Dobson to 120k straight.

John called, only to see Derek’s QQJ3 for Queens-full.  With that pot Derek chipped up to about 575k while John’s stack dropped to about 105k.

On the last hand of this level, John got some back.  On a flop of QsJd4s John got his last 95k in and called by Derek.  John’s AsJc9s8h had both straight and flush draws.  Derek held KJ92.

The last two came Ts2d and John made the nut flush to take the pot.  He doubled to about 220k, dropping Derek’s stack to ~435k.

Kyle Peck (9th) and Peter Dragar (8th) busted out quickly and it was time for the money bubble.  With seven players left and only six getting paid, the next player busted will leave empty handed.

Approximate chip counts:

John Dobson – 340k
Alex Ivan – 290k
Derek Bowers – 215k
Teddy Andrews – 190k
Ravi Ande – 112k
Donna Blevins – 55k
Derek Whorley – 30k

Before this was posted and just before the blinds went up, Derek Whorley doubled up through Derek Bowers.

Event 2: Dan Hood Hits the Rail

$250 Deep Stack PLO High-Only (Re-Entry)

Level 14:  Blinds 1,500/3,000

Total Entries:  59
Players Remaining: 9
Average Stack:  131,000 (44 big blinds)

Dan Hood - 10th Place
Dan Hood – 10th Place

In a four-way pot, the flop read AhTh2s and Dan Hood got all his chips in the middle.  Kyle Peck and Derek Worley got out of the way when Alex Ivan also moved in.

Dan had KhQhTd7s for a pair of Tens with gutshot Royal draw, nut flush draw, and gutshot draw to Broadway.

Alex held AdTs8s4c for top two pair and the lead.  The last two bricked out Kd3d and were no help for Dan, who hit the rail in 10th place.

Alex chipped up to about 200,000.
