The next flight of SPS Event 1 gets underway at 6 pm and our players already crushed the guarantee. The prize pool for the $500 buy-in tournament is just under $ 280,000 but will grow significantly with tonight’s flight, along with tomorrow’s large crowd.

Players start with 30K stacks and the first 19 levels last 30 minutes before going up to 40 for the duration. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30 pm.

Action will continue until 12.5% of the field remains and suvivors will return on Sunday at noon for Day 2.

Flight E is dropping fast and they are already down to the last eight tables. Only 21 of them will book a seat in Sunday’s Day 2 but they are wasting no time trying to run up a stack.

One of those is max late reg Johnny Bromberg, who jumped in during the break. The last time he played a tournament here, it was the Tampa Poker Classic Championship, and he walked away with the title along with $90K for the win.

The Flight E field is building nicely as we head deeper into the afternoon and the prize pool continues to climb. We’re looking at $275K up for grabs already with another flight tonight and a busy busy day in the final flight tomorrow.

Some familiar faces in the field this afternoon include Hassan Hakim, Jordan Joeckel, Antuan Bunkley, Barry Roth, Matt Leecy, Aaron Speer, Wayne Leonard, and Marie Harrell.

Hakim, a local grinder with some big scores here, found a huge result a few weeks ago. He entered the $3,500 Aria Poker Classic Championship in Vegas, outlasted most of the 1,853-entry field, and finished fourth for a $320,000 payout.

A little closer to home, Hakim won two titles during our 2021 WPT Tampa series for more than $75K each.

They got there nice and early as predicted; only 92 new entries were needed to surpass the $250,000 guarantee and they hit the mark before the first break.
