Event 1 Flight A: Randy Raji Bags Huge

Randy Raji

Randy Raji was the chip leader at the last break of Flight A and added a couple hundred thousand to his stack in a level and a half after. The field reached 22 players and Raji bagged up 729,000 for a huge early lead.

Two-time Tampa Championship/Main Event winner Matthew Leecy is second with 529,000 with 20 others in various stages of happiness to be moving on to Day 2 in the money on Sunday at 11 am.

Event 1 Flight A: Randy Raji Leads Late

Randy Raji

The pace slowed a bit and 33 players were sent on (what should be) the last break of the day. They only need to get to 22 before calling it a night and bagging up some chips.

Randy Raji is the new leader in the tournament after a bunch of different players were sent off Table 11 late in the day. He sits with 495,000 with tablemate Dan Clemente in second with 365,000.

Event 1 Flight B: Building Bigger

The second flight of SPS Event 1 gets underway at 6 pm in the Poker Room and it will build on a strong start in the morning flight. They already put 171 entries into the game with six more big flights to go.

Players start with 30K in their stacks and the first 19 levels last 30 minutes before increasing to 40. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30 pm.

Flight B will play down to the last 12.5% of the field and survivors will bag their chips for a Day 2 return on Sunday in the money.

The field is shrinking fast this afternoon, down to 44 players and only half of them set to book a seat for Day 2. It will slow down soon as they near the bubble but it’s moving along now.

Frank Weigel is still in contention for his third Tampa trophy after going back-to-back in Pinktober $1,100 events. Clyde Maliauka is to his left and was at Weigel’s 2022 final table and finished third.

Registration closed for Flight A of SPS Event 1 with 171 entries setting a fast pace for the tournament. They’ve already put more than $55,000 toward the $250,000 guarantee with some really big days coming up.

Flight A will continue until 22 players remain and survivors will return on Sunday at 11 am in the money. Players must bag chips to cash in the tournament.

Players returned to action after the second break and registration closed with an unofficial 170 entries showing on the clock. We will report the official count a soon as it is available.

Maroun Akiki had the big stack in the room after eight levels, sitting with 266,000 and Dan Clemente sits in second with 226,000. The only two players over 200K but there are a lot of players close to catching them.
