Event 1: Fred Dabus and Jessica Richards Climbing

$500 Double Stack NLH (Single Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 21:  10,000/15,000 with a 15,000 ante
Players Remaining:  235 of 4,852

Fred Dabus

We have two new million-chip-aires in the room. Fred Dabus got there with a big hand right as his table was breaking. He had his 500K stack at risk with 6c6d and was looking good against Ah6s.

The Ad on the flop was a temporary scare when it was followed by a six on the AdTc6h board. Dabus’ flopped set of sixes held for a double up to 1,010,000.

Jessica Richards got there the grindy way. We didn’t see her mix it up in any big hands but she moved her 451,000 starting Day 2 stack up to 1,070,000 after an hour.

Event 1: Phil Hernz and Angel Cabrera Up to Top

$500 Double Stack NLH (Single Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 21:  10,000/15,000 with a 15,000 ante
Players Remaining:  235 of 4,852

Phil Hernz

Things were still a little fluid after the return from break and stacks are fluctuating. It looks like Phil Hernz is your new leader with 1,450,000 followed by Angel Cabrera 1,225,000.

Martin Carnero is sitting with 1,115,000 and Frank Weigel not far behind with 1,015,000.

Blinds went up to 10,000/15,000 with a 15,000 ante and the average stack is 415,000 (27 bb).

Event 1: Roller Coaster for Marsha Wolak; John Haldie Doubles

$500 Double Stack NLH (Single Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 20:  6,000/12,000 with a 12,000 ante
Players Remaining:  321 of 4,852

Marsha Wolak

Marsha Wolak began her Day 2 with some swings. Early in the action, John Haldie open-shoved for 68,000 and Wolak moved in over the top with a bigger stack from cutoff to get folds from the button and blinds.

Haldie: AhKs
Wolak: AsQs

Wolak had kicker issues and that was before Haldie hit the KdTc3s flop. The board finished 5c5d and the Haldie pulled a needed double.

A few hands later, Wolak was at it again but this time her hand was even bigger. Kyle Peterson picked up AdQh with his 28,000-chip stack but ran into Wolak’s AhAs.

Peterson never found a sweat on the Jh7s3c2h8s board to exit in 322nd. Wolak began the day with 263,000 but only dropped to 250,000 after sending a double.

Marsha Wolak – 250,000 (21 bb)
John Haldie – 161,000 (13 bb)
Kyle Peterson – Eliminated in 322nd Place ($1,085)

John Haldie

James Calderaro

James Calderaro is playing on a bit of a freeroll this afternoon. The WSOP PLO High Roller bracelet winner was the only player who took advantage of the best-stack-forward format after he bagged twice. He put 139,000 away in Flight E then improved to 553,000 in Flight F.

Calderaro picked up a $1,030 min-cash for his smaller bag and began today with his bigger stack.

Event 1: Day 2 is Set to Go

$500 Double Stack NLH (Single Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 19:  5,000/10,000 with a 10,000 ante
Players Remaining:  339 of 4,852

The first event of our first WPT Tampa series was a huge success. The tournament drew 4,852 entries over seven starting flights to create the second-biggest field in Florida poker history. The $2,086,320 prize pool is the biggest opening event in Sunshine State history and that’s all thanks to our players.

We had 340 players advance to Day 2 starting this afternoon at 2 pm but we already have a result. James Calderaro advanced two stacks in the opening flights so the WSOP bracelet winner will pick up a $1,030 min-cash for his smallest bag and will play his biggest.

Simeon Knafo leads the return with 1,050,000 while Martin Carnero, Phil Hernz, John Dolan, and Mihaly Lukacs round out the top five. There’s a lot of talent remaining in the field and they are all vying for the nearly $250K top prize.

Cards go back in the air with all 339 players already in the money so we expect furious action at the start. They have 27:34 remaining in Level 19 and levels will increase to 40 minutes after the three-table redraw.

Top 10 returns stacks:

  1. Simeon Knafo – 1,050,000 (105 bb)
  2. Martin Carnero – 1,035,000 (104 bb)
  3. Phil Hernz – 1,016,000 (102 bb)
  4. John Dolan – 950,000 (95 bb)
  5. Mihaly Lukacs – 909,000 (91 bb)
  6. Charles Honkonen – 789,000 (79 bb)
  7. James Kerr – 755,000 (76 bb)
  8. Frank Weigel – 749,000 (75 bb)
  9. Pasquale Hudson – 728,000 (73 bb)
  10. Michial Drake – 697,000 (70 bb)
