Event 1 Flight A: Edwards Muñiz Back Home After Hollywood Heater

$600 Double Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 6:  200/400 with a 400 ante
Flight A Entries:  270

Edwards Muñiz

The entry count moved up to 270 as the afternoon progresses and they are only halfway through the registration/re-entry period. That is a huge number and the fields will only get bigger as we hit the weekend.

Edwards Muñiz is back in his home casino after quite a trip across the state last month. The Tampa regular played in the WPTDeepStacks Hollywood opening event of the Lucky Hearts Poker Open and went on to win the title for more than $225,000. But that wasn’t the only thing he accomplished.

After bagging the chip lead in Flight B, Muñiz fired the Big O tournament (the first time in his career) on his day off. Naturally, he went on to win that trophy a few days before he took home the huge WPTDeepStacks hardware.

Event 2: Big PLO Field

$400 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Structure
Level 4:  100/200
Entries:  90

David Prociak

We expected a great field in the Pot Limit Omaha tournament and it is not disappointing. There are 90 entries in the tournament already as the first break nears.

David Prociak was in the game early and has to be considered one of the favorites. He earned a WSOP bracelet in 2016 and followed that up his first WSOP Circuit ring in this very event when it was run in Hollywood.

Event 1 Flight A: Aaron Speer Leads Early

$600 Double Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5:  200/300 with a 300 ante
Flight A Entries:  250

Aaron Speer

The first break is complete and players are back in their seats. There are a lot of chips in play and it looks like Aaron Speer has the lion’s share so far.

The 2019 Tampa Winter Poker Open Event 1 champion ran his 40K starting stack up to 120,100 in four levels and is pacing the field with eight more levels of late reg available.

Event 1 Flight A: First Break

$600 Double Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 4:  100/200 with a 200 ante
Flight A Entries:  235

Michael Wang

The clock is ticking down on Level 4 and Flight A players will soon take their first break of the day. The tournament count quickly jumped over 200 with more than five hours left to register.

We have plenty of regular but also a nice group of travelers here already including Michael Wang from the Garden State. He already owns two WSOP Circuit rings to go along with his 2015 WSOP bracelet in the $5K NLH tournament but I’m sure Wang wouldn’t mind adding another.

Event 1 Flight A: Nearing 200

$600 Double Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 3:  100/200 with a 200 ante
Flight A Entries:  196

Anthony Astarita

Flight A of Event 1 is nearing the 200 entry mark well before the first break of the day, a great start to the series and the tournament is at an easy pace to reach the $500,000 guarantee.

Anthony Astarita was an early entry and he can add to his nice list of accomplishments. The Tampa regular has a lot of big scores in our poker room but none bigger than the $131K he banked as the WPTDeepStacks Tampa champion in 2016.

Event 2: Pot Limit Omaha

$400 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Structure
Level 1:  100/100

The $500,000 guarantee Double Stack isn’t the only game in town this afternoon; we also have a $400 Pot Limit Omaha game that will award a WSOP Circuit ring tomorrow afternoon. The game is very popular in our area and we expect a talented group of players.

Event 2 entrants will start with 15,000 stacks and the first 22 levels last 30 minutes long. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30 pm and there is a 30-minute dinner break at 6:30 pm.

This is a two-day tournament and the PLO players will make their way through 22 levels today or stop when the tournament reaches the official final table.

Cards go in the air at noon and we will hit the highlights along the way.

  • Players begin with 15,000 in chips
  • Levels 1-22 last 30 minutes; Levels 23+ last 45 minutes
  • Late registration available until start of Level 9
