Registration in Flight E closed moments ago and the field is final at 216 entries. That brings the five-flight total to 741 and puts the unofficial prize pool at better than $370,000. While the $500,000 milestone is a bit out of reach, the prize pool will surely hit the mid $400,000 figure

Level 8 is here and it marks the final chance for open registration and re-entry. When Level 8 expires, players will go on a 15-minute break and the desk closes when cards go back in the air. As is, the Flight E field shows 206 entries bringing the combined number to 731 with an unofficial prize pool of $365,500.

One of the hopefuls in Flight E is Joey Alegria. Alegria has done his part to pad the prize pool firing a few entries into this event over the course of the last couple days. While he’s had no luck yet this year, Alegria has had a good go of tournaments dating back to August of 2016 (his first reported cash). Alegria is primarily a cash game player, but got the taste of tournament play when he final tabled this event last year and followed it up with another final table appearance in the Main Event. Those two cashes earned him combined better than $44,000.

Steve Trizis was an on-time arrival for the start of Flight E. This time, though, the early bird didn’t get the worm. He found his way to the rail after a tough stretch to start, but promptly re-entered and is back in a seat.

Trizis is a regular in the Tampa room and has numerous cashes on his resume. Most notably, he finished runner-up in a Winter Deep Stack $350 for more than $29,000 and final tabled the WPTDeepStacks Main Event for over $14,000.

Joe Zheng has made the most of the first four levels as he takes his seat following break with a stack of 55,000 god for nearly triple his 20,000 start. The entry count has continued an upward trend with the clock now showing 180. That brings the combined field to over 700 with loads of time still to register.

Running alongside yesterday’s flights was a one-day Pot Limit Omaha Re-Entry. The event kicked off at 2pm and didn’t finish until almost 2am. It was a long day for the players, especially for those that ran deep. Despite the lack of sleep, there’s a handful of Pot Limit Omaha cashers that we see here in today’s $570 Flight E.

Wagner Wysotchanski made the final table before finishing seventh. Martin Markov and Jeffrey Higgins, meanwhile, finished 14th and 18th respectively.

The trio was undeterred and is back looking for another payday here in Saturday’s 11am $570 flight.

Tampa, Florida — Charles Davis defeated 143 entries in Event 2 of the Winter Poker Open during the early morning hours of Saturday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The $250 Pot Limit Omaha Re-Entry saw a notable year-over-year attendance increase of more than 33 percent and Davis was rewarded with $9,007 and a guitar trophy for his outright win.

The event’s $20,000 guarantee was easily surpassed as a kiddie worth $30,030 was generated by the time registration closed. Davis came out on top of a tough field that included Seminole Hard Rock Tampa poker ambassador Wally Maddah, past WPO Main Event champion A.J. Kelsall and traveling pro John Holley. With 18 players left, Davis played a monster pot against Jeffrey Higgins. Both flopped a set — Higgins jacks and Davis nines — but David also had a pair of queens in his hand. A queen on the turn gave him a better set and he busted Higgins while raking in a pot worth nearly 800,000. Holding better than a third of the chips in play with 17 players left, Davis cruised to the final table and eventually to the winner’s circle.

Davis is 50 years old and resides right here in Tampa. Primarily a cash game player, he says this marked his first tournament and was in fact his first recorded cash.
