Just 41 players remain from 98 starting entries meaning more than half the Flight C field is on the rail. Despite the mass exodus, the late stages of play are littered with notables. In addition to Steve Trizis and Karl Manouchakian, regulars Tom Nguyen and Filipp Khavin are in the fray.

Nguyen, who cashed in this event last year, owns nearly $300,000 in career earnings. Khavin, meanwhile, sits on over $441,000 in cashes including a victory in the 2015 WPTDeepStacks-Immokalee Main Event.

The flop laid Kd3d2h in a three-way pot. Brian Blanchard checked and an early-position player bet 7,100. It folded to a player in late position and he jammed for just less than 12,000. Action was back on Blanchard and he shoved for more. The early-position player folded and Blanchard was in position to bust a player.

Late-position player: Ad5d for flush and straight draws

Runout: 5c turn 5h river

Blanchard improved to a fullhouse and busted the ace-five opponent. With that, Blanchard, who won last September’s Fall Little Slick for $25,000, grew his chip stack to 45,000.

Event 1 Flight C: June Running Hot at the Winter Poker Open

$350 Deep Stack NL Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 5: 150/300 with a 50 ante
Flight C Entries: 79

June Amer continues to make big hands at the right time and she just recently got all-in holding a set against her opponent’s pair and straight draw. Amer claimed 5s5d on a KdQc5hTc board and needed to avoid a jack against an opponent’s ace-10. She certainly avoided a jack when the river fell the 5c improving her to quads and keeping her alive.

“I filled it back up for you to take,” she laughed to tablemate Karl Manouchakian.

In addition to the aforementioned Karl Manouchakian, the field in Flight C of the Winter Poker Open $350 features another Tampa standout — Steve Trizis.

Trizis is a regular of the property, with four of his top-10 largest career cashes coming on the Seminole Hard Rock felt. Trizis took the skills he’s honed here in the room to Las Vegas this summer for the World Series of Poker. There, he placed 392nd in the $10,000 Main Event good for more than $28,000 marking his second biggest cash.

He’s off to a good start in Flight C and has over starting stack midway through Level 5.

Dating back to this summer’s WPTDeepStacks-Tampa series, Karl Manouchakian has been the hottest tournament player this side of the state of Florida. We’ll take a closer look at his run later, but right now it’s time for June Amer’s 15 minutes of fame.

Amer recently limped from middle position and Manouchakian raised to 500 from her direct left. It folded around to the big blind and he came along as well.

Flop: AcQd7s

The big blind checked as did Amer. Manouchakian C-bet 800 sending it back to the big blind who check-raised to 2,000. It was then on Amer and she three-bet to 5,000. Manouchakian quickly got out of the way and the big blind mucked as well. Amer flashed the 7c7h set as she raked the pot.

Level 2 is freshly underway and the field has nearly doubled over the first 30 minutes of action. The clock shows 42 entries to this point and among them is Tony March.

March is a regular of the Seminole properties and no stranger to Tampa in particular. He has recorded 27 career cashes, many of which came here at the Seminole Hard Rock. Among his more notables scores are a runner-up finish in a WPT regional event in 2013 for more than $50,000 and a fourth-place finish for nearly $30,000 in the 2014 Spring Poker Open.
