On the eighth hand of hand-for-hand play, there was a three-way pot between Mark “Bud” Wiser in the small blind and two unknowns who occupied the big blind and button. The flop was AcQd4c and it checked to the button who shoved 34,000 (only two big blinds). Wiser, who claimed just 35,000, also moved all-in. The big blind had both players covered but opted to fold. The button was at risk.

Wiser: AhTs for top pair
Button: QcJc for a pair, a flush draw and a backdoor straight draw

Runout: 7h turn 9d river

Wiser’s pair held and the button was eliminated sending the final 18 players into the money.

After just over five hours of play, the 184-entry field in today’s 2pm $150 buy-in Deep Stack Turbo event is down to the final 27. Out in front with a stack of 470,000 is Josias Santos who left his mark on this property during the WPTDeepStacks-Tampa series this summer.

Santos started the series off with a 22nd-place finish in the 698-entry opener, then followed it up with a fourth-place finish and $18,000 score a few days later in a $350.

His stack in the Turbo is good for now, but with 15-minute levels and rising blinds he’ll need to keep winning pots if he hopes to steamroll into the money.

Stay tuned for bubble play.

WPO Day 3 Closes with Big Event 1 Fields

The third day of the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open has come to an end. It was a busy day in the ballroom with the final two flights of Event 1 running with more than 300 joining on the last day.

They pushed the prize pool over the $150,000 Guarantee in the first flight and over $200,000 during the second. The prize pool was finalized and the Event 1 winner will take home nearly $50,000 tomorrow plus a seat in the WPO Championship.

Survivors from all six flights will return tomorrow, first trying to make the money before grinding to the final table.

For those who didn’t qualify for Day 2, we have a nice Sunday afternoon tournament which will move along at a nice pace. The $150 buy-in Event 3 has a turbo structure with a $15,000 guaranteed prize pool.
