Howard Mash

The entry count is moving up towards yesterday’s number of 200 and it will slide past it before too long. Flight B is on pace to put another 300 in the game and a path to a $1,000,000 prize pool.

Howard Mash is with us after making a trek across the state. He’s coming off a runner-up finish in the Hollywood Escalator Event 1 and looking for his first Tampa title. Mash owns two trophies from our sister property in Coconut Creek, a back-to-back run in 2015, and he also owns a WSOP bracelet after winning the WSOP Seniors event in 2019.

Level 2:  100/100 with a 100 ante

Tony March

Day 1B is cruising right along with a steady stream of new entries pushing the combined total up to 350 and the prize pool is already over $500,000.

Tony March is a new addition to the field and one of our favorites. The philanthropic grinder is known for his skills and the fact that he donates 100% of his tournament cash to his Pay It Backward charity foundation.

That was evident here in December 2019 when March won the $360 multi-day event during the Winter Poker Open. He chopped evenly with AJ Kelsall for nearly $45,851 and put that number on a big ol’ check.

Main Event Day 1B: Building on the Guarantee

$1,700 TPC Main Event (Re-Entry)
$300,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 1:  100/100

The Tampa Poker Classic was already a success before the first card was dealt in the Main Event. Flight A of the headliner solidified that success with an even 200 entries putting the $1,700 over its $300,000 guaranteed prize pool.

And there are still two weekend flights to go. This one is going to be huge.

Flight B gets underway at 11 am in the Poker Room with 30,000 deep starting stacks and 40-minute levels until the final table. Late registration is available until the start of Level 10 after the dinner break and unlimited re-entries are available during that time. Play will continue into the evening with action pausing after Level 14. Those with chips will book a seat for Day 2 on Sunday at noon and a chance at the title.

We expect big crowds this weekend in the Poker Room so get here early and get your seat.

$300,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 14:  2,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining:  33 of 200

Michael Stashin

It looked like Event 6 champ Anthony Askey was going to bag the biggest stack for Day 1A but he dropped from his high of 420ish while Michael Stashin jumped him.

Stashin put 397,000 away for Day 2 with Askey’s 351,000 the next closest with Mitch Smith (349,000), Ryan Luker (335,000), and James Kerr (327,000) rounding out the top five.

We will post the full chip count list as soon as it is available but here are the ten biggest after Day 1A:

  1. Michael Stashin – 397,000
  2. Anthony Askey – 351,000
  3. Mitch Smith – 349,000
  4. Ryan Luker – 335,000
  5. James Kerr – 327,000
  6. Scott Robbins – 312,000
  7. Jesse Mull – 274,000
  8. Fred Paradis – 251,000
  9. Richard Kincaid – 244,000
  10. Alex Ivan – 237,000

Main Event Day 1A: Last Level of the Night

$300,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 14:  2,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining:  44 of 200

Level 14 is here and that means it is time for players to start making moves if they want a big Day 2 stack. The field is down to 44 players and each would like to have chips at the end of Level 14 to book a seat on Sunday.

They will play 30 minutes of this level, draw a random number with 10 minutes remaining, and each table will play that many hands to close out the night.

Main Event Day 1A: Anthony Askey Out Front

Anthony Askey

The final break of the day is complete and action is back underway with two more levels in Flight A.

Anthony Askey took his time getting to the top of the counts after a long Thursday in the Poker Room. He locked up his first Tampa guitar trophy (and second Tampa title) early this morning when he won TPC Event 6 so he can be excused. But Askey is moving right along now and leads late with 360,000.
