Jon Godwin’s Event 7 appeared to be starting out like a dream. He took his seat and peeked down at pocket kings his first hand. After a three-way raising battle saw Godwin get all in, the dream turned to a nightmare — he was facing pocket aces. Godwin never improved and was left with 125 chips.

He picked up ace-king the very next hand and doubled. The hand after that he moved in blind and woke up with kings. His opponent held Ax6x. The flop brought an ace and the turn was a six. Lo and behold, Godwin spiked a king on the river and doubled again. With those three hands behind him, he settled in for a bit before getting all in with 9h8h. His opponent held 6h5h on an Ah7c5d board. Yet again, Godwin spiked gin when the turn came the 6d improving him to a straight.

Godwin, who once held less than a big blind, now holds 5,000 chips. He still has a long way to go, but he’s in much better shape than he was.
