Collin Wilson

Collin Wilson won Event 31 late tonight in one of the most interesting ends to a tournament you will see to win the top prize worth $6,495 along with the WPT Trophy. On the last hand, he and Laura Born shoved blind. She held Kh4c, and he was ahead with 7h7c. The was until the flop fell 4s4h2c. Born went into the lead, but the turn and river fell Qs7s for Wilson to win the tournament on the river. A celebratory scene broke out after the final card, and even Laura fell to the floor laughing after the suck out on the river.

Here is what he had to say after the crazy end to the victory: “It feels pretty good after bricking the Main Event, the $1,100 event, and a couple of other events, Laura and I actually went heads up and we decided at the break that we were just going to go all in blind so it was pretty funny.”

“It was absolutely fun, we’ve played locally together in Atlanta so many times, and she’s one of my best friends, and it was great to have her heads-up with me. We were just in it for the fun, and both of us have gotten waxed for the last week or so. I have an 8 am flight tomorrow and she talked me into playing. That was just hilarious at the end,” said Wilson when he was asked about the fun atmosphere at the final table.

The late finish of the tournament didn’t lend itself to a post-win celebration (especially with the early flight), but the final stages of this particular tournament felt like a celebration that was already taking place. “From three tables on we were just having a good time, and we really didn’t even care, it was crazy. We had already decided we were going to go all-in preflop blind. It was really fun,,” said Wilson. Laura added in the background, “Where else are you going to see a final table like this.”

“I actually haven’t been here in awhile, but I have been here, not in a couple years since Covid. This property is pretty cool. To get the money back that I lost in the Main Event, and the $1,100 that I bought into a couple of times was really good. We just literally played this for fun. We were like, ‘as soon as we bust out of this tournament we’re just going downstairs to play some blackjack,’ but we didn’t, and it was a really good time. It was fun, and the fact that we got heads-up is really crazy” said Wilson when he was asked about his overall experience here in Tampa.
