Event 8: Double Money Attempts

$150 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em Turbo (Re-Entry)
Level 12: 1,200/2,400/400 Ante

Another good reason for a Sunday afternoon Turbo, besides the obvious value, is the second chance opportunity for those who fall short in the multi-day field Event 7.

We’ve seen players bust out of that event and immediately jump into Event 8. The format dictates that it won’t last into the wee hours of the morning and also allows players a chance at the rare double cash day.

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah and fun-time AJ “Doc” Santos both cashed in Event 7 (Maddah in 47th, Santos in 38th). Now they’re in the Turbo looking to add another cash to their bankroll without ever leaving the property.

The Turbo event is shaping up to have another nice turnout for some Sunday afternoon poker. Last week’s version drew 199 entrants and we have over 150 in the game with two more levels of late registration to go.

We ran into Cheri Beatty catching a big double/knockout and asking “where was this yesterday (in the $560)?” She’s run her stack over 80,000 and in good position for the long haul.

Kevin “Kevmath” Mathers, the holder of mass poker knowledge, is back in action today after falling short in Event 7. He took a break last night, enjoyed a Tampa Bay Lightnings game, and firing into the Turbo event.

John Duhig
Last week’s Event 3 turbo winner John Duhig earned $4,668 in less than eight hours.

The clock strikes 2 p.m. and the eighth of 14 Winter Poker Open primary events is underway. The $150 deep stack no limit hold’em turbo tournament features a $15,000 guarantee, a starting stack of 25,000 chips and 15-minute levels. Late registration/re-entry is available until the start of Level 13.

Last Sunday’s turbo tournament saw a field of 199 entries generate a prize pool $22,230. John Duhig of Lithia, FL beat the field in record time — less than eight hours — to earn $4,668.

We’ll take a deeper dive into today’s 2 p.m. event a bit later. Until then… Good luck, players!

Event 8: Monster Double For Gugliotta

$250 Seniors (45+) Classic Rockers NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 22:  Blinds 10k/20k/3k ante

Dave Ormsbee opened for 90k on the button and Kevin Gugliotta kicked it on up to 250k straight from the big blind.  Dave called.

On the flop of AcJd8s Kevin checked, Dave shoved, and Kevin insta-called.  Dave’s AhKc for top/top was smashed by Kevin’s JhJc for middle set.

The last two fell 9c8d and Kevin doubled up to ~1.2 million out of the 1.88 million chips in play.  Dave was left with ~250k.

Event 8: 4th Place – Shari Amato

$250 Seniors (45+) Classic Rockers NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 21:  Blinds 8k/16k/3k ante

Shari Amato - 4th place
Shari Amato – 4th place

In a battle of the blinds, Shari Amato (bb) shoved over the top of Kevin Gugliotta’s (sb) open.  Kevin called, showing AT.  Shari’s A7 was dominated.

The board brought an Ace, but Kevin’s kicker played to take the pot.  He’s up to over 600k.

Shari took 4th place and $2,506, and bragging rights for out-lasting her husband Amelio.
