Justin Zaki went on a late day heater, built a castle, and he finished Flight A of the TPC Championship with the lead. He put together a huge bag with 630,000 and the clear leader by the time they wrapped up action this evening.

Romeo Mendoza bagged second with 572,000 followed by Cody Hernandez, Jason Block, Oleg Rutskin, Fernando Rodriguez, Ken Fishman, and Chris Meyers rounding out those who bagged at least 300K.

After a middle position open, Marie Harrell moved all in for 51,000 from the cutoff and Jesse Cohen reshipped from the small blind to get folds from the big blind and original raiser.

Registration closed for Flight A of the TPC Championship with an official 192 entries in the game. That puts $432,000 in the prize pool towards the $500,000 guarantee and only 31 entries needed for Flight B tomorrow to get it there.

Flight A will continue into the evening and survivors at the end of Level 14 will bag their chips for a Day 2 return on Sunday at noon.

Championship Day 1A: Cody Hernandez Leads After Dinner

Players returned to Championship action after the dinner break with a new chip lead. Cody Hernandez sits with 254,000 followed by David Tuthill with 232,000 and Romeo Mendoza with 212,500.

The clock shows 192 entries for Flight A but we are waiting on tournament staff to lock in the official numbers.

Level 9 came to an end and tournament staff sent Flight A players on a 60-minute dinner break while they take the black chips out of play.

They will return at 6:30 pm and registration will close for the day. Flight B runs tomorrow at 11 am with the same schedule of play.

Doug Marro

Table 11 has been having fun most of the day and a lot of it comes at the expense of Jeremy Becker. Everyone keeps wishing him a happy birthday and he keeps shaking his head with the attention.

The latest bit came when he found a cooler against Doug Marro.

“I doubled up the birthday boy!” Marro laughed after his kings ran into Becker’s aces to move Becker up to 110,800.
