Mark “Bud” Wiser

The entrant count continues to move higher as Event 10 rolls through the second level of the day and the 56 entries put them on pace to match last year’s tournament.

We’re seeing some familiar faces pop into play, some new today and some getting in the game after busting out of Event 9. Mark “Bud” Wiser is back at the table looking for his third deep run of the series. He earned back-to-back cashes in Events 3 and 4, both with final table appearance, and earned $5,338 for his third place finish in the multi-day $150 Event 3.

Event 10: Picking Up Bounties

Event 10: Mike Sinicola Defeats Stephan Bourges for the Title

2015 Winter Poker Open

Event #10
$125 Green Chip Bounty No Limit Hold’em
Total Entries: 60

Prize Pool: $4,500

Tampa, FL (December 14, 2015) — Monday evening was a good time to throw a bounty tournament in the poker room. Event 10 on the 2015 Winter Poker Open schedule was a $125 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with $75 going in the standard prize pool and $25 going to a bounty on each player’s head.

After six hours of action, it was Rhode Island transplant Mike Sinicola standing alone as the last player in the tournament, earning $1,708 for his efforts along with the Winter Poker Open title.

The tournament quickly played down thanks to the bounties pushing the action faster. The tournament drew 60 entrants with half of them gone by the time registration closed. Event 10 was down to two tables shortly after the prize pool was announced and they formed the final four hours after kick off.

Sinicola came to the final table with the chip lead and never let it go. Even then, there was still some work to do. Ten players remained with six getting paid. We quickly lost Forrest Jahn, Jody Cvek, and David Kolaskey before Sinicola knocked out Joe Squires on the money bubble.

Agnes Barton was in the money and at a final table for the second straight evening but she couldn’t ride her short stack further than sixth place. Philip Sheffield and Scott “Twitch” Anderson followed soon after to set up a long three-way battle.

Despite the quick levels, Stephan Bourges and Daniel Ramirez battled against Sinicola but neither was able to overcome his huge lead. Ramirez lost out to an open-ended straight draw getting home and Bourges ran into a big hand to end the game.

Sinicola is a proud member of the small state of Rhode Island, even if he’s been down here for a while. “I lived down here for 11 years,” Sinicola laughed, “But you still have to represent.”

This was his first career victory and he picked up 13 bounties ($325) to go along with his $1,708 first place money.

Event 10 Results:

1st: Mike Sinicola – $1,708
2nd: Stephan Bourges – $1,049
3rd: Daniel Ramirez – $680
4th: Scott Anderson – $468
5th: Philip Sheffield – $338
6th: Agnes Barton – $257

Event 10: Daniel Ramirez – 3rd Place ($680)

Level 17: 8,000/16,000/2,000 Ante

Daniel Ramirez (Miami, FL)
Daniel Ramirez (Miami, FL)

Seat 1: Stephan Bourges – 69,000 (4 bb)
Seat 2: Mike Sinicola – 460,000 (29 bb)
Seat 3: Daniel Ramirez – 362,000 (23 bb)

After Scott Anderson was sent out in 4th place, the three remaining players settled it for a long battle. Stephan Bourges and Daniel Ramirez took turns doubling off each other and Bourges went on break with only four big blinds.

Bourges caught a double shortly after the return before the two big stacks went to battle.

Ramirez opened to 42,000 and Mike Sinicola called in the big blind to see the qdjh8d flop. Sinicola followed that up with a check/raise shove after Ramirez bet out 60,000. It took a few moments to work out but Ramirez shrug/called with jc9h for middle pair against Sinicola’s open-ended straight draw kctc.

The ts turn left Ramirez with seven outs to dodge for the big double up but the 9c river was one of the bad cards. A tough way to go from second position to out and Ramirez had to settle for third place money.

Event 10: Philip Sheffield – 5th Place ($338)

Level 14: 4,000/8,000/1,000 Ante

Philip Sheffield (Brandon, FL)

It was a battle of the blinds that sent Philip Sheffield on his way. Mike Sinicola opened in the small blind for enough to put Sheffield all-in and he called with ah2d.

He needed to catch to stay alive against 6d6s but found no love as it ran kc4c3h9sth to get Event 10 down to four-handed action.

Event 10: Agnes Barton – 6th Place ($257)

$125 Green Chip Bounty No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 13: 3,000/6,000/500 Ante

Agnes Barton was down to just 16,000 hitting the money and moved all-in shortly afterwards and picked up two callers in Daniel Ramirez and Stephan Bourges. They checked down the kc8h3s7d6d board and Ramirez’ 4c3c was better than Bourges’ ahtd.

Barton finished her second table in as many days when her jc9c was no good.

Event 10: Road to the Money

$125 Green Chip Bounty No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 13: 3,000/6,000/500 Ante

Since the final table wasn’t in the money, here’s how they got there:

Mike Sinocola and Forrest Jahn got it all-in with a race, Jahn at risk with adkc against qsqh but he moved ahead on the as4h3h flop. His fate changed on the unfortunate qd turn to send him out in 10th place.

Next up it was Agnes Barton moving all-in from UTG+1 and Jody Cvek moved in as well. Everyone else let their hand go and it was Cvek at risk with the smallest stack. His acjh was good against ah3s on the kc6h5d flop but the 3c turn was unkind. Cvek couldn’t catch the 5s river and he was gone in 9th.

David Kolaskey’s exit happened when he ran into a monster. It was four-ways to the qc4s4h flop and everyone checked. Kolaskey got all his chips in the middle with top pair kd9h but was demolished by Stephan Bourges’ quad-friendly 4d4c to put Event 10 on the money bubble.

They hit the money after Mike Sinicola opened to 24,000 and Joe Squires moved all-in over the top. Sinicola called with 7d7s to put Squires at risk with ahjd. It was a dry th8h2c6dqs board to send Squires out on the money bubble.

four way

Event 10 is into the last level to register and we have 60 in the game so far. The action has been flying right along and we have half of that number still in the game.

Daniel Ramirez just did his part in a four-way all-in pot with his acks catching the river on the ts8c2h7dkh board against qsqh and jhth and Brandon Byar’s as8s.

They’ll go on a break after this level and registration will close when they return.

It’s a fine time for some evening poker and we have enough entrants in Level 5 to meet the guarantee with more than an hour left to register.

The bounties have kicked things up a little and several players have been knocked out only to jump back in. Jeremy Costa is in action also and looking for a second trip to the payout desk today. He was eliminated in Event 9 on the hand immediately after the money bubble and he parlayed that cash into an Event 10 entry.

Event 10: More Bounties Available

$125 Green Chip Bounty No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 1: 25/50

We’re ready to kick off the next new tournament on the 2015 Winter Poker Open schedule and it should be a fun, quick tournament with rewards for getting it one player shorter.

Event 10 is a $125 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with $75 going into the regular prize pool and $25 going on the head of each entrant. Take away the last of their chips, earn a green cash chip worth $25 cash at the cage. There’s also a $5,000 guarantee on this tournament to pull in a few extras players along the way.

Each entrant starts with a 15,000 stack and they will play 20-minute levels throughout the day.  Late registration and re-entry is available until the start of Level 9 around 9:10pm with breaks after Levels 4 and 8.

They will cruise at a brisk pace until we have the latest WPO Champion. Players are taking their seats and we will be underway shortly.

RECAP

The last event of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open was a seven-way chop with Paulo Castro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) taking home the final custom guitar trophy.

Casto is declared the winner based on having the chip lead, slightly more than runner-up Denise Tuck.

“It’s good,” said the soft spoken Brazilian, who finished 7th earlier in the series in Event 7 ($250 buy-in) for $1,934. He said a key hand in the tournament when his AQ beat pocket 6s.

“Flopped a boat,” smiled Tuck on her key hand. She held AK on an A-A-K flop, “ace-king was the catalyst to get me this far.”

Gary Lucci, Jared Grey, Justin Dunn, Ray Lambert and Norbert Kara are the other five players who all agreed to an even split of the remaining prize pool money. Each player took home ~$2,800.

The tournament began with 213 entries as the top 27 earned a piece of the $25,560 prize pool.

“It was a long day, I’m tired,” said Grey.

Castro is part of a strong Brazilian contingent that has been playing throughout the series. He’s currently living and working in Miami and Castro said this is one of his best tournament cashes.
