We have so many old and new friends in today’s field, a fun time in the Poker Room on a Saturday afternoon. They continue to build up the prize pool and we’re aiming to double the $300K guarantee.

Only a few friends we found in the crowd include Fabian Foster, Ashley Spring, last year’s WPO Championship runner-up Diego Uez, Joel Deutsch, Justin Zaki, Tampa legend Karl Manouchakian, two-time Tampa Poker Classic champ Paul Snead (also reigning SHRPO Champion), Riley Price, Marsha Wolak, Kevin Blewitt, John Dolan, and Bryce McVay.

Action is back underway after the players had a little respite from the grind. They are set up to run three more levels before getting another break.

Wayne Leonard is the early frontrunner, spinning his 40K stack up 175,500 in two hours. Peter Fox is second biggest in the room with 132,800 and David Moses, who already bagged yesterday, is running hot with 110,600 while trying to use the best-stack-forward option.

Flight C players will soon be taking their first break of the day after they reached a new milestone. The WPO Championship prize pool surpassed $500,000 and will continue to grow until we close registration at 5:45 p.m.

The third and final flight of the 2025 WPO Championship gets underway at 11 am, and the $1,700 buy-in tournament already surpassed its $300,000 guarantee. Today, we run it up.

Players sit with 40K starting stacks and all levels last 40 minutes. Late registration is available until the start of Level 10 at 5:45 pm and players my fire as often as they wish during that time.

Flight C will continue until 12.5% of the field remains and survivors will return tomorrow at noon for Day 2.

The cards are back in the air, and they are spending the last part of the day trying to make a Day 2 bag. They are all chasing the million-chp bag that David Meagher put away last night but that would take some work.

Ken Fishman leads the field late in the day with 401,000 followed by Dakota Diaz with 381,000.

Day 1B players are taking their final break of the day, probably. There are 25 players remaining and 14 will advance but yesterday showed it’s possible to grind it out for another two hours.

We found another new leader at the break, this time Dan Chalifour is out front with 199,500. Still a long long way if anyone wants to catch Dave Meagher in the clubhouse with 1,049,000 from yesterday’s flight.

Eli Kiwan is right behind with 199,000 followed by Nikit Bakarjiev (185,000) and Colby Covington (184,500).

Covington is widely known for his success as an MMA champion, but he’s picking up results at the poker table to get some additional notice. He finished seventh out of 7,703 entries in the 2022 SHRPO opener, the biggest field in state history, and later went on to win the Pot-Limit Omaha 8 title in that series. A few weeks ago, he finished tenth in the $10K GGMillion$ Championship.

Registration closed for Flight B of the WPO Championship with 106 entries, putting the combined total at 206, and the prize pool up to $310,500. They will mostly likely add another $300K to the prize pool tomorrow during the last flight on a busy Saturday.

Flight B will continue until 14 players remain and they will advance to Day 2 on Sunday at noon in the money. Players must bag chips to cash in the tournament.
