Brandon Wong

Brandon Wong cruised to victory at the final table of Event 15 as the perennial chip leader tonight to take home the top prize worth $33,190 and the WPT trophy after a heads-up final against Brad Owen.

In the final hand Wong held 8s7s on the button, and Owen was covered with Jd2d in the hole. The final board ran out Kd10s5cQs8h, and Owen was eliminated in second place, good for $20,530.

Here is what Wong had to say after his victory on the final hand: “I’m just a very lucky person. I’m going to use the money to go and help my family out, and take care of my family and my friends. I’m going to eat a bowl of noodles, tip some dealers, and then go and relax.”

When Wong was asked about his previous experience in poker leading up to the victory tonight he offered this: “I was definitely on a hot streak, it was all luck for me, no skill. I’m very lucky, so a complete hot streak. I just do this as a hobby, and I got lucky like Moneymaker. I’m a tech consultant, so it’s fun to come here absolutely.”

Wong was the perennial chip leader through the final stages of the tournament, and this is what he said about the endgame of the event: “It’s really easy, all you’ve got to do is flop it. Other people have Kings and then you have Aces, and  hopefully it will work out for you. And after this I might be playing the WPT, we’ll see how lucky I feel.”

“Everyone is super nice, it’s a very friendly atmosphere. It’s just nice and relaxing, it feels like I’m hanging out with the boys at a home game,” said Wong when he was asked about what he enjoys about playing tournaments here in Tampa.

Brandon Wong just took out a player on the money bubble when his Js8s made a flush on the river against his opponent’s hole cards of KhJh that had made a staright on the AhQs10s flop.

That’s when the chips got all in as well, and Wong stacks up 535,000 after collecting the pot. Every player remaining will now take home $2,530.

Brad Owen

Walking the field before the second break, we found WPT’s Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme taking their Event 15 title shots. In a couple of days, they’ll have some cash games on their minds.

Owen and Neeme are hosting a WPT Meet-Up game in the Poker Room on Thursday with some $3/$5 action, and the signup list will get the games going at 8 am. They will be in the action later in the day, and we have a special high-hand promotion from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Every hour during between 8 pm and 10 pm, the high hand at the Meet-Up tables will receive a seat in Flight A of the $3,500 buy-in/$1,000,000 guarantee WPT Tampa Championship. Three hours, three seats.

Only those playing on the $3/$5 Meet Up tables are eligible for the Championship high hand promotion.

Raminder Singh

Event 15 took a break after four levels and the field quickly topped the $50,000 guarantee with 63 currently in the game. That’s a great start and we expect more to join as we head into the afternoon.

Raminder Singh was an early entrant and trying for another unique accomplishment. He already owned more Seminole Hard Rock Poker hardware than anyone else (eight trophies from Hollywood and one from Coconut Creek) when he captured the $400 Turbo title here on Saturday. Singh joined a small handful of players to have big wins at all three properties.

Then he went and did it again Monday night when he won the $600 NLH title for his second of the series.

With one more win, he can join Julio Fernandez and Atanael Thomas as the only players to win three tournaments in the same Seminole series.

Event 15 is moving right along and they are more than halfway to the $50,000 guarantee after half an hour. It looks like that number is pretty safe and it should be topped in no time.

So early entrants include Marsha Wolak, Nancy Birnbaum, Bin Weng, Daniel Colman, Hunter Cinchy, and defending WPT Tampa Champ Brian Altman.
