Championship Day 1A: Dinner Break

Level 9 came to an end and tournament staff sent Flight A players on a 60-minute dinner break while they take the black chips out of play.

They will return at 6:30 pm and registration will close for the day. Flight B runs tomorrow at 11 am with the same schedule of play.

Table 11 has been having fun most of the day and a lot of it comes at the expense of Jeremy Becker. Everyone keeps wishing him a happy birthday and he keeps shaking his head with the attention.

The latest bit came when he found a cooler against Doug Marro.

“I doubled up the birthday boy!” Marro laughed after his kings ran into Becker’s aces to move Becker up to 110,800.

Rodney Turvin is having himself a nice run during the Tampa Poker Classic and it looks like he might do it again in the Championship. He finished 13th out of 1,463 in TPC Event 2 and followed that up with a $20K score in the $1,100 Event 10 tournament.

Now Turvin is spinning up a stack in the Championship and sits with 155,900 at the midpoint of the day.

Flight A players returned from their second break with 171 entries showing on the clock and nearly three hours remaining to register. More players are jumping in and they are building a great field.

Fernando Rodriguez had the second biggest stack on the first break and now the top stack after the second with exactly 200,000 sitting in front. David Tuthill sits in second with 196,900 and Igor Tretyakov is third with 163,600.

We have a lot of our regular players mixed in the field along with some of the best traveling grinders. Jeremy Becker is a loyal regular in the Poker Room and he’s in the Championship.

The Flight A field keeps growing and they are teasing a big number already. The guarantee is a virtual lock now and we can start thinking in terms of a much bigger prize pool.

Cards are back in the air for Flight A with 129 entries and Kyle Dilschneider leads them all. He built up a huge stack worth 175,400 over three levels and the biggest in the room followed by Fernando Rodriguez with 162,400.

Both are off to a great start but there’s a long day ahead of them.
