The second break is nearing for the Omaha 8/Stud 8 tournament with the entry count very close to hitting triple digits. The current count is a great turnout even without the extra two pushing it up.

A.J. Kelsall made a return to the Event Center a few hours after picking up two cashes in a day. He went deep in the $1,100 NLH tournament, finished in 14th place, and immediately max late reg’d the $600 Pot Limit Omaha tournament. Not his favorite game, Kelsall still went on to win the entire thing.

Event 9 made it through the first four levels of the day and tournament staff sent the OE players on the first break of the day. The green chips are coming out of play, one of the few times they are used these days, and they will return with four more levels of late registration available.

The Omaha 8/Stud 8 players in the area are not messing around this afternoon. They are rolling in the Event Center in big numbers with 71 entries before the first break. That’s a great turnout for a non-hold’em game and they are building a very nice field.

Among the gang, we found Ken “Teach” Aldridge coming off a nice run. The popular player went deep in the WPT Poker Showdown Championship in Hollywood, made the televised final table, and finished sixth for $261,700 after a couple of tough, televised beats. Aldridge is sporting some shiny jewelry today, the WSOP Six-Handed bracelet he won in 2009.

Changing it up with a mix game this afternoon in the Event Center. Event 9 is a $400 buy-in tournament that will switch between Limit Omaha 8 and Stud 8 every eight hands to keep things interesting.

They’ll start with 12,000 out front and play 30-minute levels from start to finish. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 3:30 pm and they may re-enter as often as needed during that time. They have a dinner break at 5 pm and will continue into the night until we have another champion.

Cards go in the air at 11 am in the Event Center. Please note that the venue has changed; this tournament was previously schedule to play in the Poker Room but has been moved up to the Event Center.
