Event 10: No Trouble Bubble

$1,100 One-Day Challenge (Re-Entry)
$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 17:  4,000/8,000 with a 8,000 ante
Players Remaining:  16 of 158

Mansoor Kader

Despite the bigger buy-in and nice money available, Event 10 speed along and hit the money less than 15 minutes after they returned from dinner break.

And most of that was thanks to Mansoor Kader.

He ran over his table, knocked another player out as they were ready to pause the clock for the money bubble, and just like that the 16 remaining players were in the money. Kader did the heavy lifting and jumped into the lead with 530,000.

Tournament staff paused the clock for a different reason; this time to redraw the last two tables instead of the money bubble.

Event 10: Anthony Astarita Leads After Dinner

$1,100 One-Day Challenge (Re-Entry)
$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 17:  4,000/8,000 with a 8,000 ante
Players Remaining:  20 of 158

Anthony Astarita

Event 10 resumed following the dinner break and we have two familiar players at the top of the counts. Former WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event champ Anthony Astarita leads the was with 470,000 followed by Jordan Joeckel with 430,000.

They will play until 17 players remain and tournament staff will pause the clock to begin play on the money bubble.

Event 10: And Then There Were Three

$1,100 One-Day Challenge (Re-Entry)
$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 15:  2,500/5,000 with a 5,000 ante
Players Remaining:  24 of 158

They are wasting no time in Event 10. It seems like no sooner did they break a table when they reached 32 than it was happening again when they reached 24 less than a level later. Table 22 seems especially tough with a conveyor built of eliminations.

They have about 45 minutes remaining before the dinner break, so another race is on.

Event 10: Four Tables Remain

$1,100 One-Day Challenge (Re-Entry)
$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 14:  2,000/4,000 with a 4,000 ante
Players Remaining:  32 of 158

Rob Manjura

Event 10 quickly dropped down to the last four tables of the tournament with 32 players remaining. There’s a very good chance they hit the money bubble before the dinner break.

We found Rob Manjura still in the mix and one of the few players remaining who already owns a guitar trophy. He took down the opening event of the 2016 Winter Poker Open for a cool $30K payday.

WPO Main Event Kicks off Tomorrow

The preliminary events are locked in and that means the next tournament on the schedule is the big tournament on the schedule.

On Thursday at 11 am, we kick off the 2021 Tampa Winter Poker Open Main Event with a $1,700 buy-in, $500,000 guarantee, and three starting flights. It will draw players from around the state looking for some big action to close out the year and we’ll even have some visitors from around the country.

Registration will remain open until 6:30 pm to give players plenty of time to get to the Poker Room. If they miss out on Thursday, the last two flights run with the same schedule on Friday and Saturday.

We are excited to see a lot of our old friends back with us along with a room full of regulars.

Good luck!

With a tournament of this size and quality, it’s not surprising there are a lot of talented players taking part in the action. A great warmup for tomorrow’s Main Event with some big money at the end.

Among those playing today, we found Brandon Byars, Ken O’Donnell, Anthony Askey, Jeremy Becker, Jacob Naumann, Filipp Khavin, and many more.

The field is down to eight tables with 62 players and still a long ways to go before they begin thinking about the money bubble.

$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 9:  600/1,200 with a 1,200 ante
Entries:  158

It was a tight race as the second break was coming to an end. Two things were in question; could the $1,100 One-Day Challenge hit enough entries to triple the $50,000 guarantee and, after that, whether it would become our biggest ever.

Yes to both.

The tournament officially drew 158 entries to create a prize pool over $150,000 and it topped the previous biggest One-Day Challenge field of 156.

A great way to ride into the WPO Main Event tomorrow.
