Wally Maddah

Flight B made it through four levels and they are taking the first break of the evening. It’s a nice turnout so far looking to surpass the 86 entries of this flight last year.

Tampa poker legend Wally Maddah is making his first appearance of the series, even if he’s feeling a little under the weather. But that didn’t stop him. He threw on the ol’ mask and grabbed a seat.

This concludes out tournament updates for the evening. We will post the final Flight B numbers are registration closes and post the full chip count list when it is available.

Corey Major

Those last three hands of the day were the difference for the end-of-flight chip lead with Corey Major catching a big hand to put 254,500 in his bag. David Smith had the second biggest with 242,000 followed by Susan MacPherson with 222,000.

We will post all counts as soon as they are released.

$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 14: 1,500/3,000 with a 400 ante
Flight A Players Remaining: 25 of 113

Tournament staff paused the clock with ten minutes remaining in Level 12 and announce each table would play three more hands. When those are complete, they will race off the black chips and bag up for a Day 2 return.

We will wait for the official counts but it sure looks like Susan MacPherson ran away from the crowd over the last two levels. She has a huge castle with no one else very close.

Susan MacPherson

Mackenzie Ramsay’s time at the top did not last long. It seems a larger number of his trips make a trek across the table to Susan MacPherson. She was stacked up to 177,000 at the final break, good enough to lead the small crew over 100,000.

They will play out two more levels and survivors will bag up their chips for a Sunday return.

Event 1 Flight B: Night Flight to Fly

$570 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 1: 25/50

The first day of the WPTDeepStacks series concludes with the second flight of the $200,000 opening tournament. Flight A of the $570 buy-in tournament drew 113 entries to put it on the clear path to reaching that number. We’ll have another group of players kicking things off at 6pm while Flight A plays to the end of their day.

Each entrant will start out with a 20,000 stack and all Day 1 levels last 30 minutes long. Late registration is open until the start of Level 9 at 10:30pm with unlimited re-entries available during that time. Flight B will complete 14 full levels with all survivors bagging their chips for a Day 2 return on Sunday.

This is a “best stack forward” tournament so players can enter as many flights as they wish and play their biggest stack on Day 2.

Cards fly at the top of the hour and we will bring the final numbers with chips counts at the end of the day.

  • $200,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
  • Players begin with 20,000 in chips
  • Day 1 levels last 30 minutes; Day 2 levels last 40 minutes
  • Late registration available until start of Level 9
  • Day 1 will end after Level 14 or Tournament Director discretion
  • Players participating in multiple Day 1’s may choose their best stack for start of Day 2

Mackenzie Ramsay

The clock is counting down and players are not far from their final break of the day. It will be a 10-minute walk away from the tables before the finish out the last two levels of the day.

Mackenzie Ramsay is the latest player to top the counts and it looks like his 107,900 is good enough for that honor.

The pace picked up recently and they are down to 40 tables. Doyle Scott Elliott was a recent elimination when he open-shoved from the small blind and his big slick ran right into the big blind aces.

Event 1 Flight A: Slow Grind Down

$570 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 11: 800/1,600 with a 200 ante
Flight A Players Remaining: 42 of 113

Tony March

We expected to see a quicker exodus for the door after registration closed but it’s not happening so far. The math says were should have approximately 23 players remaining at the end of the day but they are not near the number yet as the clock ticks down.

Tampa favorite son Tony March is still working his way through the field and looking for his first tournament win. He has plenty of big results and a dozen final table appearance but no picture with a trophy. March is known as much for his charity work as his poker play and a trophy would go well with his other accolades.

Event 1 Flight A: Oscar Lindo Leading Late

$570 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$200,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 10: 600/1,200 with a 200 ante
Flight A Players Remaining: 56 of 113

After the quarter chips came out of play during the second break, we were able to take a quick peek at the seven remaining tables to check on some leaders.

No one is running away with the late chip lead and it appears Oscar Lindo leads them all. His 82,300 appeared to be the biggest in the room with a good number of close stacks trying to chase him down.

Lindo has one tournament win on his resume and it came during the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open. His biggest tournament cash was right here after a final table appearance in the opening event of the 2015 Winter Poker Series for $20,000.
