Carlos Guerrero’s 430,000-chip stack

Flight E of the Winter Poker Open $570 is moving along and players just finished their last break of the night. From 192 starting, they’re down to only 45 left with just one hour of play remaining in the day.

This is the point in the tournament where lots of movement in the stacks can often take place. One player that’s already seen a lot of movement in his 30,000-chip starting stack is Carlos Guerrero.

After starting the day about seven hours ago on a level playing field, he’s worked his way way up the counts and has a pile of chips worth about 430,000. As is, he’s tops in his flight easily and that figure puts him at fifth in the overall counts for now.

His stack is so big, in fact, he’s late returning to play choosing to instead let a few rounds of blinds and antes come out before the end of the night.

David Bradshaw

Bradshaw is a past Winter Poker Open Main Event champion having won the finale in December of 2016.

Back then, Bradshaw pocket $154,750 for the victory and was catopolted into third place on the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year leaderboard.

Now, a couple years later, he’s back in search of more scores. It wasn’t meant to be in the 10am Flight E, but he re-entered and is back in the game in the 3pm Flight F.

Geneva Pinney

The Flight E field is looking up at Geneva Pinney as the second break of the day is nearing. Pinney is tops with a stack of roughly 150,000 and she looks to keep a hot November/December going that already includes 2nd-, 4th- and 5th-place finishes and about $16,500 in earnings.

There are a number of familiar and decorated faces in the field and we’ll take a look at some of them after registration closes.

$570/$300K: Marvin Karlins Big Early on Saturday

$300,000 Guaranteed

Level 7: 400/800 with a 800 ante
Flight E Entries: 176 (Total Entries: 634)

Marvin Karlins

Never one to shy from action, it’s no surprise to see Marvin “The Duckman” Karlins with a big stack early here in Flight E of the $570. Karlins, a published author and university professor, is a regular in the Tampa poker room. His poker achievements include a final table appearance in a $5,000 buy-in event in Jacksonville along with more than $280,000 in earnings.

Karlin’s tournament resume is devoid of any wins, though, and he’s hoping a hot start here in the $570 is the first step toward finding the winner’s circle. Later in Level 7 he’s already tripled up and sits with about 100,000 chips.

$570/$300K: Guarantee Gone; $300K+ Up for Grabs

Level 5: 200/400 with a 400 ante
Flight E Entries: 143 (Total Entries: 601)

Early in Level 5, the Flight E entry count passed the 142 threshold ticking up to 143. That grew the combined field to 601 entries which surpasses the $570 buy-in Winter Poker Open opener’s $300,000 guarantee. Registration and re-entry are available in Flight E until ~3pm. The sixth and final flight kicks off then, too.

Thanks for a great showing, Tampa!
