A couple of first time tournament players made it to the final table and one of them won the 8th Main event of the inaugural Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open tournament series.
Darryal Watts (Charlotte, NC) overcame a 3-to-1 chip deficit heads up against Maynard Hirshon to take the title, trophy guitar and the $8,884 top prize.
“I had the patience of Job,” said Watts, who won the tournament with 
and said this was the first time he’s played a tournament in a casino.
“I’m disappointed,” said Hirshon, who earned $4,886, “he out played me.”
Hirshon, who plays at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa on a frequent basis, was on fire and mowed down the final table and had more than half the chips in play five-handed.
After he knocked out Danny Lobato in fourth place, Lobato simply said, “this is his night, he’s hitting everything.”
Hirshon took care of Brandon Adams in third place and, like Watts, was a first time casino tournament player. That set the stage for a methodical heads up battle.
Watts got his first double-up with QT vs A3 when he hit a Queen. That was followed by Watts taking the chip lead when his AQ defeated Hirshon’s Q7 which set up the final hand.
141 entries put up a total buy-in of $29,610 as the one day tournament overlooked the Rockin’ Pool.
“I can’t go anywhere,” said Watts, who will extend his Tampa stay to playing in the Championship Event. “I’m looking forward to it.”
