RECAP
As Lux would have it, Jason wins the final trophy event of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open. Jason Lux (Orland Park, IL) defeated Dave Bennett (Palm Harbor, FL) heads up to take the title, the trophy and the $2,673 first place prize.

“I like bounties,” said Lux who knocked out six players for an additional $300, “I like that you have the chance to free roll your way to the money.”

Lux held Ks6h vs Bennett’s Kd5d on the final hand and made the winning flush on the river.

“I was trying to win the (trophy) guitar to be honest with you,” said Bennett, who stuck around to play in the event after cashing in the Championship Event for $6,779 (29th).

Bennett wasn’t the only player out for the guitar as two players were in the mix for their second trophy of the series. Wally Maddah was looking to go back-to-back after winning Event 16 for $3,557, while Angel Vu won Event 7 ($69,833).

“I was nervous,” said VU, “not about the money, but about the points,” she said as she’s in contention for the SHR Player of the Year race. “It is absolutely my goal. I wanted another guitar too.”

Vu finished 4th after having her pocket Aces cracked by Lux who flopped a set and turned a full house.

Maddah squeaked into the money in 8th place as the shortest stack at the final table of 10. He benefited when bubble boy Tim Pettus flopped a set of Kings, but Bennett hit running cards for a straight to send Maddah and the final nine into the money.

The day began with 69 entries ($13,800 total buy-in) and the most famous player in the field was former NFL head coach Bruce Coslet. The Bengals and Jets coach scheduled this stop on his way to Cincinnati for charity work with his former quarterback Boomer Esiason.

Coslet didn’t make the money and the field pared down fairly quickly and the final table was reached in just six hours.

“It was fun playing with these really good players,” said Lux, who recently moved back to the Port Charlotte, FL area and credits his dad Bill with teaching him the game.

The tournament capped the 17 trophy events scheduled over 21 days at the Summer Poker Open
