RECAP
The first bounty tournament of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open came down to two players dead even in chips.

Derek Bowers (Alliance, OH) and Sterling Savilo (Tampa, FL) agree to chop the remaining prize pool, each taking $9,858, with Bowers declared the winner.

“I won a lot of small pots,” said Bowers, “not much to say.”

Bowers did highlight his bubble play, saying he opened shoved 18 hands in a row. “There were a lot of short stacks and nobody wanted to get knocked out,” he said. “I went from 25k to 90k on the bubble.”

The two-day tournament moved quickly in the early stages and the bounty hunters agreed at the final table to turn it into a one day marathon.

Play was slow to start and then came to a grinding halt as there were no eliminations for more than two hours. Eventually play picked up with three straight knock outs as Ian O’Hara (7th), Derrick Cutler (6th) and Dave Acevedo (5th) were all knocked out in a span of ten minutes.

Perpetual short stack Joe Williams was next to go in 4th place, while Gustavo Moscon’s elimination in third set the table for the heads up deal.

Listed as runner-up, Savill has been a professional player for 2-and-a-half years and adds to his more than $200,000 in career recorded tournament earnings.

Bowers also plays full time and moved to Brandon, FL from Ohio to play poker. In addition to the money, he takes home the trophy and earns a $3,500 seat into the Championship Event (June 12-18).
