Alan Phillips continued a hot streak of Seminole Hard Rock Poker results Sunday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa. He made his way through a big, 236-entry field in Event 8 of the property’s Winter Poker Open, a $150 deep stack turbo tournament to earn $4,900 following a four-way chop. On top of the prizes, Phillips punched his ticket into the series Championship and earned his second SHRP trophy.

Phillips’ solid play first paid off last month during Hollywood’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open. He carded an outright victory in a $360 big stack — Event 10 — good for a payday of $15,484. With that score fresh in his pocket, the Palm Coast, Florida resident headed west to Tampa. He quickly experienced success again, finishing fourth in WPO Event 6, a $250 big stack, and adding another $1,533 to his score. His Sunday night victory would come just a few days later and put an exclamation point on the end of his year.

The $150 deep stack turbo was Event 8 of 14 primary events on the 2016 WPO schedule. It drew plenty of notables and even saw defending WPTDeepStacks-Tampa Main Event Champion Anthony Astarita play his way into the money. Phillips’ victory came after some deliberation of a chop. After Ian Pearson exited in fifth, the final four players agreed to a deal. Phillips held the chip lead and went down as the champ while Jack McIntyre pocketed $4,263, David Bander $4,150 and Ron Brown $3,142.

Phillips is a 64-year-old retiree. He was born in the Bronx, but is now a resident of Florida.
