Two more flights are finished in the kickoff event of the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Summer Poker Open.

The night session saw James “Ping Pang” Kerr (Lakeland, FL) nearly doubles his stack in the last hour of play to bag the overall chip lead with 390,500.

“Anytime I have chips I like my side of it,” said Kerr who went from 200k to 325k with a double knockout towards the end of Flight D. “That’s the thing with me, either I have chips or I was knocked out a long time ago.”

Kerr was on a roller coaster that nearly saw him re-enter with registration closing, but he survived four straight all ins.  Once the re-entry option ended, Kerr buckled down and hit an OE straight on the river to extend his lead late in the night.

Flight C (11 am start) finished with Mark Shulla (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) on top with 275k, which is currently fourth among remaining players of Flights A-D.

“I came for golf, but now I found a new passion, poker,” said Shulla, who is originally from Madison, WI.

“Spending time at the table is better than working on the golf course.”

The field now stands at 602 entries in this $300k Guaranteed event with Friday’s sessions bringing in 148 (Flight C) and 164 (Flight D) entries.

Event 1 resumes 11 am Saturday with Flight E (11 am) and Flight F (7 pm).
